I wanted to mod an old dell keyboard that i have by running some el wire inside it. My question is, would it be possible tap into the keyboard's ps/2 cord, or a point withing the keyboard itself, to draw power for the el wire? I don't want to have to run yet another cable from the keyboard to my psu for power. Any help would be appreciated. Thx.

You probably could, but there are some very real caveats. The current rating for PS/2 ports is 100mA. Some motherboards may ignore that standard and hook the appropriate pin in the socket straight to the 5V rail, but then the cable to the keyboard still has a limit. And your motherboard might actually limit the current to 100mA, in which case you have to be real careful not to exceed that.

Thx for the replies guys...i think shrinkwrapping the two cords together would be the easiest thing to do. Now...to buy some el wire and shrinkwrap :)
