This was covered in a previous thread. The consensus was that you'd see marginal improvement, but whether or not it's worth the extra money depends on your tastes.
Otto, how is the 2180? I'm trying to compare this NEC to Samsung 213T, but i can't get any info. What's your opinion on black - white levels and viewing angles? The NEC is $400 more,i wonder if it's worth it.
I had a look at the Samsung in a store, but not with 1600x1200 and not with DVI. So basically I just know how it looks. I have no clue about black-white levels, but can tell you following.
- The black is extremly darker than the one on my old acer notebook, but noticeable lighter than off
- White can be super light, if you want it
- The viewing angle is about 170° in all ways, I never had problems looking at the screen at all
- Concerning quality NEC is absolutely superior. The monitor mount is very robust, yet allows comfortable adjusting and "pivoting" in nearly every direction
- Image quality is veeery good
- Featurewise I doubt the Samsung can beat: DVI-I + DVI-D + D-Sub, Auto-Brightness, Perfect upscaling (1280x1024 -> 1600x1200 etc.), maaaany (auto-)tuning options for analogue signals (I use DVI, but it's good to have such features)
I read through a lot of reviews at www.prad.de before I decided. As I understood it, you can basically split the 21" TFTs into two classes, where the NEC absolutely belongs to the upper class, whereas the Samsung does not. If you don't lose anything besides the money (so you don't need it to survive), spend it on the NEC - just my opinion.
