Thanks for any guidance - I'm having more trouble with this choice (memory for a C2D 6600 build) than usual.
AT seemed to find great performance from $150 2gb kits that ran at DDR2 800. Many on the forums seem to be saying that your memory will limit your max CPU speed.
Can someone help me understand? From my prior experience overclocking P3s, Athlons, etc., I would normally buy decent memory, and just drop the divider if I needed to in order to keep from overtaxing the ram. As C2D doesn't seem to be overly memory sensitive, can't I do the same thing here? I'd rather put the extra $150 into a faster vid card and get a real performance boost, but I also don't want to gank my build by cheaping out the memory. I'm hoping to get a decent OC on the proc, and wasn't thinking I needed to drop another couple bills of ram just to do it...
What advice would you give?
Thanks in advance!
