Hey, so I am trying to increase my storage on a budget. Rackmount cases would be too much for me
So I have been given a spare EdgeStore DAS501T and this works well as a port replicator with the 5 Samsung 1TB disks I have and the cheap SIL controller that comes with it. However, I'd prefer to setup a proper RAID and I don't want to use that SIL controller as I've read that aside from it being software RAID in the first place it's flaky at best. Is there a controller out there (within reason pricewise as I'm on a budget) that would allow me to use this DAS as a mini RAID box for my media? I'm completely new to this so am not sure on what is out there, I saw a RocketRaid card that looked like it was for eSata but I can't find out much about it. Can eSATA even do Hardware RAID5? Any help appreciated, thanks!
