ECS H55 ITX?

Looks like a pretty straight forward, no frills board.
I wish there was a picture though to see CPU placement

I guess it wont be taking the p55's i7/i5 (curse you intel for your awful naming nomenclature)
 
your DFI T36 can use an i7 860 and better CPU placement for a larger heatsink. Also, no USB wifi support was included in your package.

its an H55.. I am guessing that we wont see a H55/57 where the CPU placement does not suck..

why cant this use an i7-860

I know that it lists basically only clarksdale CPU's but that would be due to the on-board video not working with a i5-750 or a i7-860. I Believe that its the same thing with all the h55/57 boards for this reason. Yet people are running the quads in them just fine.

The CPU placement is horrible making OCing virtually impossible.

As my soon to be released heatsink test will show, the intel standard cooler is garage. Luckily an H50 should still work with the board...but they are still putting those capacitors right at the edge meaning the top bracket part will hit it...grrrr.

Stick with the DFI in my opinion...it has issues but it is the best out there.

IMO what it comes down to is the DFI if you want to OC, Or the Intel if you do not. It is kinda crummy though that there isn't a GOOD enthusiast board for 1156 in mini itx as of yet though.
 
I don't see any real advantage of the Intel board over the ECS feature-wise, unless you need raid... and the ECS is $50 cheaper right now at the egg.

What is unfortunate is that ECS has the worst CPU placement (if only marginally). The zotac has the most "central" cpu placement followed by intel (just a bit closer to the RAM side of the board) and then ECS (Which is the closest to the PCI-E slot).
 
this probably won't be able to take anything more than a clarkdale i3/i5 and overclock since mini ITX generally are pretty weak overclockers. from the pics, it looks like it only has 4 weak vregs without heatsinks. i wouldn't try OC'ing a quad on this thing. you might have headroom for those dual core clarkdales though

The fact that its an intel & you can count on it working consistently.. When Fry's 1st opened in vegas they had a Mobo CPU Combo just about every week with ECS boards & I Must have returned maybe 50 or 60 of them (over the course of about a year) before I stopped buying them. I Would just talk clients into spending the extra cash or I just wouldn't bother so since then I wont play with any ECS toys anymore.

Sadly, I wouldn't be surprised if you bought & returned the exact same board several times over. The Fry's back home was notorious for tossing returned items back on the shelf without regard for why the item was returned in the first place.

No I made sure to avoid the returned ones. Also several different models under both intel & amd. I just never had any good luck with ECS so I wouldnt buy them if there was an alternative. & Given the Intel reputation for making solid products the 50 dollar difference isnt something I would hesitate to pay if I planned to keep the system for years to come.

That was probably back in the early days. ECS had some QA issues BITD but started getting better around the Athlon 64 socket 939 days.

My only beef with ECS these days is their warranty policy, which is not end-user friendly.

Officially supporting the quads is a bad move.. at-least not with a * or something next to it stating that not all features will work. People will buy them expecting the on-board video & then not get it.

as far as the early days goes.. ECS has been around since 1987 so I would consider the early days being 87-92.. What I am referring to was probably a decade later then that.
 
I have had ECS boards running 2 yrs for me 24/7 in a couple machines here. No problems and instability with these.

Just ordered mine. Will be a little while before it's up and running in a machine, but crossing my fingers on a BIOS update that'll fix the multiplier issue I've been reading about. Price is right though.
 
They just emailed me a BIOS update to fix the multiplier issue. Not sure if they have posted in on their site yet or not. If you need it PM me.
 
Just an update. Been running this board with an i3-530 overclocked to 4.074ghz for well over a month now. Haven't had a single lockup or issue. Temps are even pretty good for being in the SG05 case. I have a 80GB Intel SSD on order. I'm hoping to mount it to the bottom of the case between the fan and the start of the MB.

I also think I'm going to order a reference 5850 on Friday. One of the ones that pushes the hot air out of the back of the case.
