I just bought the Frys combo and well im taking a shot at overclocking it.

So far I was able to bump the fsb up from 133 to 150 for 2.66ghz to 3ghz.

It seems that if I go further than that it will crash.

Is there an acessible memory divider or something so I can try to go a bit higher?

Some bios options I see...
Hyper Threading: enabled (should I just disable it since the 805 doesn't have hyperthreding)
Maxcpuid value limit: disabled
Execute Disable bit: enable
CPU TM Function: TM2
........Thermal monitor mechanisms.
........TM1 Freq >= 3.6ghz FSB 800
........TM2 FReq >= 2.8ghz FSB 533
(definitely dont know what that is, so I wrote more down)
Cpu OC Function: Enabled
Frequency: 133
PCIe Clk Synchronize: Disabled

Cpu VCore Auto 1.425-1.6v
DIMM Norm->+.045
NB norm -> +0.15

DRam Freq Auto, 400, 533, 667

Is there anything I should look at?
Could it just be the ram I got thats limiting me? I have a stick of 512mb DDR2 4200 Cosair Value Select ram.. (YES I know value ram but value ram has worked well for me over the years)

Have you tried setting the memory frequency to 400? The 3/2 memory divider would keep the memory at or under DDR2-4200 speed at up to a 177MHz FSB (CPU @ 3.54GHz).

And it sounds like you got your memory up to 300MHz DDR (~DDR2-4800 speed) @ 150MHz FSB already. Cooling and/or extra voltage will probably be your problems above 3.4GHz.

Ah okay thanks for the info. I shall try that.
=\ yeah considering this is economy stuff I doubt it would oc well. I will try that in a little while.

Do you think its wise to update my bios?

Edit:
The CPU fan seems to like to stay at 100% now I think I have to change a smart fan option in the bios.

I still can't get past 150 even with the ram at 400.

What type of Power Supply does this type of setup need anyways? I rarely see any power guidelines on the documentation.

Perhaps this might provide more data?

I think im jsut doing something really stupid thats screwing up my oc.

At the current state, I can run 2 prime95s for over 30 minutes (got bored after 30 minutes) and it was fine. Ran a prime95 and ran 3dmark... old version so I figured how else can I screw up both cores at the same time?
So imo, 3ghz is perfectly stable. My psu can handle that type of load, I don't see why it cant handle a little more.

Well, I can get it higher... but how much higher it can safely go I don't know..

^As you can see, I had to unsync my PCIe speed to get it to go higher. Unless of course this is innacurate... But systool is the only thing I can think of tha will show this.

My computer seems stable, games play fine... but since the PCI speed is still 33 mhz, does that mean I might be able to avoid running into the drive issues on SATA? Im being FORCED to use sata as a result of the lack of connectors.

Any input?

bump?
Went back to my pcie locked so it will stay at 100mhz. Was worried about screwing other things up. It is quite stable at 165fsb without the lock though, so I would assume that would eliminate the possiblity of not enough power or crappy CPU thats limiting me.
