Ebay Removing Virtual Items?

It is possible that you may see a mass removal of virtual items form Ebay very soon. This basically means any MMO spoils could no longer be sold on the auction service.

eBay’s proactively removing RMT auctions is huge in and of itself. However, there’s another side to this: note the MMO being referenced in the CS chat. Note that UO is one of the few MMOs that permit RMT, so eBay removing UO RMT auctions would be… pretty huge.

What is an "RMT"?

Real Money Trade: Selling in game items (gold, weapons, armor, characters, etc.) for real money. Most companies discourage this practice as it raises questions as to who owns the actual data. Most players do not like it because it is basically cheating and gives people with real money an advantage.

Unfortunately RMT is huge due to the massive inflation MMO economies eventually develope. This is especially true for Korean/Asian developed MMOs due to their grind oriented gameplay.

Cheers to eBay for cracking down on RMT!

So I wont be able to sell off my America's Army account? Dayem, Im up to 80 now, and thats after being at 74 when the big-reset came years ago.

I have friends that played Camelot for years and made some serious cake selling items and high experience accounts on Ebay. The world didn't end.

Ebay gets a cut from the sales $$, and the MMO companies get lots of $$ compensation, since the players would even BOTHER playing multiple accounts, etc if it weren't for this background economy going on.

So the MMO's are just shooting themselves in the foot if they manage to actually stop the trading/sales of items and accounts.

Me, I don't understand any of it, never had an interest in MMO's, the only online thing I've ever bothered playing is AArmy and a bit of Farcry (before everyone lost interest), both FREE, but spending $15/mo/account to kill goats and make swords OVER and OVER is just mind numbing.

The MMO companies are too greedy and will kill off thier own golden egg layer by taking away the only background incentive for the players to bother playing to the extent they do now.

This will just stop seller's who are not clever in their method of selling.

For example: Instead of my for sale page listing "Buy my lvl 60 Warrior on the Blackhand Server for $200". Create a page that sais "Buy this toothbrush that INCLUDES a level 60 Warrior on the Blackhand server. Price: $200".

So, you are selling a real product and recieving a bonus along with it. I do not believe that would break eBay's TOA.

they could write in one that you cant sell an object and have a bonus worth way more than it is.

i wish they would kill all the "ill send you a website/ email address" auctions.
