hi, i dont know where to put this thread so i put this in general hardware because i dont think its appropriate anywhere else but it does have some relation to hardware

ok, im new to ebay, just signed up for an account and im bidding for HARDWARE(see, it has something to do with hardware :D)... but i keep getting outbidded and stuff

how do these people do it?.. any tips on it?

also, when i bid for it, does that mean when i win, my credit card is automatically charged and i dont have to worry about anything or do i have to manually pay them myself by wiring money or something?

thanks

It will tell you that you won and it will have a button to buy it. :)

They have programs on their home computer, pagers and cell phones that alert the person that a another person outbidded them and they push a button to bid.

I have been there too many times, been outbidded at the last minute, but usually in the Subforum anymore since I have gotten high priced items cheap, they seem to lay off of me.
People see my user name and say, we'll just go to the next item, for example I bidded on a large server case, I was outbidded by $1.00, I waited for the last few minutes, kept hitting refresh and bidded at the last split second. In these programs, they set a certain time limit to bid, after that time limit expires and they know they have won the item.
But if you chime inbetween that time expiration period on their programs, you can win the item.
After awhile you get used to when they bid for an item, what time of the day a person bids, and how much the bid is. I don't use these programs, I just know when to bid.

so its best to bid at the last last last second?

Just put in your maximum bid and then whenever someone else bids, ebay will automatically bid against that person up to your maximum bid. If it goes over your maximum bid then that is more money than you wanted to spend so don't worry about it. Like everyone else has said, there are also programs and websites that will put in a bid for you at the last second. It's not 'manipulating the ebay market' or anything. That's just how things work. Once you learn how it all works then you will be able to win some stuff too. Just don't get too caught up in it or you could easily spend more than retail on some items.

I had a satellite receiver on ebay last week. It was at $18.50 with about 30 seconds left. I went to the auction page and it had shot up to about $30. By the time the auction was over it was at about $40. I was excited. :D

Yea, those "sniping" programs are annoying. But just put in the most you'd want to pay and then don't worry about it.

People take different kinds of Payment.
Most take PayPal and some take Money Orders with very few taking checks. Nothing will be charged to you until you physically send payment either electronically or by snail mail.

hey...i got a question......is it safe to ship hole computers.....and what would i send it with i.e. fedex, ups, mail......

DREW

what about the thing thats like "Buy it now"... if the bid goes higher than that price, am i still allowed to buy it?

currently, im bidding for a laptop cd drive... i lost the bid yesterday and i found a new one... its 14.95 but 19.95 at buy it now... if the bid shoots over 19.95, am i still allowed to buy it now?.... can someone sorta explain a lil on the Buy it Now feature thing?

thanks

buy it now feature, means you are in a hurry and want to buy the item, you click buyitnow and win the auction. No bidding or waiting for the listing to end if you see a buyitnow option. IF the bid goes over the buy it now price, the option for buy it now dissappears.

well, i lost the bid for that one... it ran outta time before i could buy it now

so i bid and won another one... Teac 24x CD224E and i got it for 14.95... after going thru a lotta frustration, i learned a lil and signed up for paypal and i just paid for it... now im waiting for my product :D

thanks for the help guys

after this laptop cd drive, the next thing is an IDE adapter... then probably a video card... wow, ebay is so exciting :D

When you see that the sellers take paypal and credit cards, or paypal only, if you ask them for other payments they will let you send a check, money order or cashiers check.

I am too concerned to share my credit card over the internet, so I ask and they allow me to send an money order.

Now you also know you have other payment options even if the listing says paypal only or something else.

Just be a little cautious when buying. Make sure the person you are buying from has lots of positive feedback and read the auction text entirely.

Pay Pal is the devil. They aren't as bad because eBay actually owns Pay Pal. Back in the day, Pay Pal was NOT FDIC.

I hate paypal because you only get a $2000 limit on using your credit card before you HAVE to give them your checking information. And if you read their user agreement, they have the authority to freeze your checking account should people make complaints (real or fake) that you stole their money. I am too lazy to get a seperate account just for pay pal, so I only send money orders. There are many, many horror stories about Pay Pal, google it and read them.
