EAX Sound Problems

I recently switched from my onboard Nforce 2 sound chipset to the Hercules Fortissimo IIII 7.1 PCI sound card, because it supports EAX. However, when I switch to EAX sound in games like Call of Duty, UT2004, and Star Wars: KOTOR, the sound either crackles and pops(Star Wars) or some of the sounds just do not play at all.

For example, in both UT2004 and Call of Duty, when continuosly shooting a gun, some of the gun sounds sort of sputter in and out. I even had an instance where, in Call of Duty, my whole system was bogged down and my sound cut out and just buzzed. When I restarted my computer, I found out I had to reinstall the Fortissimo III drivers and software.

These problems only occur in EAX modes, and the sound works and sounds great when turned off. My questions is, is it the Fortissimo's poor capabilities when rendering EAX, or a faulty installation, or something else?

My system specs:

Shuttle AN35 Ultra
AMD XP2500 Barton
Crucial/Micron PC2100 512MB
Nvidia Geforce 4 4200 128MB
Hercules Fortissimo III 7.1
Windows XP

Okay, figured out the problem! Turns out I needed to disable the Nforce sound chip in the bios, as well as the gameport. I thought that just disabling it in the device manager was enough but apparently not. EAX now works perfectly in Call of Duty and UT2004, and there are no more pops and cracks in Star Wars. :D
