I've got a 2.8c running at 3.5Ghz right now on an Abit IC7. The machine is rock solid and has been for about 10 months in this condition.

I've been given a 3.0e and am wondering if overclocking it instead would yield any more performance.
A google search sends me to bias after bias in the northwood vs. prescott argument

I've decided to simply ask her and go with whatever the Hardforum general consensus is.

You'd just have to throw the 3.0e in and see how it OC's. A lot of them are great OC'ers and if you can ramp it up to the 3.7+ range i think it would be worth it. Especially since it was free.

Yea. Its impossible to tell. It may be a crap overclocker. there is no way of knowing without trying it.

You have to try it out first and see where you are most stable. It's very difficult to say unless you do it and see.

You would be one pissed off puppy if you change to a "E" . I had a 3.2E and even @3.8ghz is was slower then my 2.8C@2.8 . I got on the phone right away with Intel and asked them about the performance of the CPU . " everyone knows they are slower then the Northwoods". They did offer to replace my 3.2E with the same. It was also a liitlew warn, under water it ran 48C @3.2 my 2.8@3.5 runs 26C . I did replace the 2.8C with a 3.2C but for some reason all things being equal(every bios setting the same) the 2.8C@3.5 (1000FSB) is faster then 3.2C@4.0(1000FSB) , ie: sandra , 3dmark2k1/03, AquaM3
