Easiest free irc program to use?

I've never used irc before and was wondering which client was the easiest to use (reliable too etc) and free.

Mirc says it costs 20 to register and I won't be using it more than a few times so it wouldn't be worth it.

Another thread mentioned: Leaf, mIRC, ChatZilla, Gaim, Node, Miranda, JChatIRC, hydrairc, and Polaris 1.11. So many! Which would be easiest?

mirc never expires tho.

even though you should support the company and creator.... mirc just waits 5 seconds to start and you click continue if you dont pay. Never shuts off because it isnt licensed or registered.
