I'm considering ordering an EA231wmi from provantage because it's very cheap there and there's no sales tax, but I'm worried about returning it. I wouldn't be able to live with even 1 dead pixel, or having worse than average uniformity issues with this monitor. They aren't very clear on their site about their return policy regarding dead pixels.

Also, would I be able to get support from NEC instead, like if I have a bad uniformity issue for example?

This should really be in the mega-thread, but anyways. I got mine from Provantage and was also worried about the return policy. You're right in that it is a bit vague on the site, but to me it sounded like I could return the monitor for pretty much any reason. My first monitor did have particularly bad uniformity problems so I ended up going direct to NEC and they decided to replace it under warranty (your mileage may vary on this, and it could depend on who you talk to). If you want to do an exchange on Provantage for reasons you claim are defects, then I believe Provantage makes you contact the manufacturer first before exchanging it through them. On a return I don't think this stipulation exists, but I would email them.

I've gone with Provantage and I'm also hoping that I won't have to find out in person how returns/exchanges are handled for things like bad uniformity or dead pixels.

It does seem that returning (not exchanging) the EA231WMI should not be too bad, since it falls under the Provantage 30 day return coverage. From their web site:

Standard 30 Days Return
Products marked "Standard 30 Days" may be returned for a refund as long as the invoice date is not over 30 days, and the original package contents are complete and contained in the original manufacturer's packaging.

As for a monitor exchange due to something like bad pixels, you'd have to ask Provantage (heh - maybe I should have, too).

I've used Provantage to buy the two 26" LCD monitors in my sig.

Fortunately, I did not have any moderate or serious issues with my monitors so I never experienced their return policy.

I'm locked in this battle right now over them having sent me the wrong monitor. I ordered a P2210 and they sent me a P2210H. It's been a week and a half and they haven't got and RMA for me yet because they're waiting for the vendor to "authorize" it.

As I found out, this company doesn't stock anything; they only forward your order on to wholesale firms. That makes returns, etc. very complicated.

On top of that, their customer service has been absolutely horrible. I can't say loudly enough how much I would recommend against purchasing anything from this company.

Ordered a notebook from them and still waiting and waiting till the manufacturers authorization.
