EA not developing Madden for PC anymore

I don't have the link (I am currently blocked from their site from work), but IGN had a story posted this morning about EA stating they would no longer develop Madden for the PC anymore due to piracy.

now...I realize that most madden games are roster updates each year, but there seems to be more and more devs saying they can't develop for the PC anymore because of piracy. I'm not saying PC gaming is on the way out, or that it is dead, but it seems like there are quite a few companies jumping ship at an alarming rate.

thoughts/opinions?
 
Actually, it was posted about a month ago (http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1292915) but seeing how I've always played Madden on the console (Genesis FTW) I won't be complaining much. Actually, the Genesis version was one of the last versions of Madden I was actually excited about getting.

yeah, i usually only buy 1 Madden game per console cycle. except this year....stupid EA putting Farve on the cover
 
Wow. That will piss off the 13 people in the world who play Madden on the PC.
 
considering they cut out content for the PC anyways, and the same shitty graphics have been there for the last 4 years or so (with MINOR improvements) I say no big loss.

In fact, maybe they will just drop making madden games altogether... give the NFL license to someone who can actually make a decent football game.

agreed. most fun i had with a nfl game was ESPN NFL 2K5 for XBOX(1). Got it preowned for 2$ shipped. Hours of enjoyment with that one.


I played madden 04 to 08 for PC. No huge difference in graphics, minor gameplay enhancements.
 
Yeah! 2K Games needs the NFL license.

I don't think anyone really played Madden on PC, but it is alarming that EA thinks that. We could see lots fewer PC games out from them if that is the case.
 
its really sad EA has a monopoly on NFL games. 2kgames provided competition. But thats been gone for some years now. EA keep spilling out the same garbage and every year preaching that its revolutionary take on the game.

That thing EA said about gamepads was a shitty excuse! I don't play sports games with a gamepad because gamepads are for games that are more playable with analogue input (racing games). FIFA would be great with a gamepad but it's much slower than the keyboard. And FIFA had way better AI for crosses 5-6 years ago!

They also said that PC market has big bussiness challenges. WHAT? They have an exclusive NFL licence, no one can make an NFL game for PC except them!
In recent years people always said that GTA and Madden NFL were the two best selling franchises. EA wasn't really developing Madden NFL and now they cry because people won't buy the same thing every year.
EA tip: Not making a game series' every release better than the one preceding it will make sales lower every year.

For FIFA they at least they got bigger textures for players, but I guess if they continue the trend with NHL, FIFA and FIFA manager, then no one will buy these games and they'll axe them too.

Oh BTW, people in europe don't buy shitty and outdated consoles instead of PCs, so even if you made a groundbreaking NFL game people still wouldn't buy a console to play! (only stupid people).

EA is acting like SONY acts usually. They did the same with the F1 licence and there were no F1 games for PC for ~6 years. Thank god Codemasters got the licence for PC.
EA, start making games that are competetive in the PC market!!! (Again)
 
It wouldn't surprise me if more games went this way. They are all about making money and if they can blame it on something, they'll damn well blame it on piracy because thats the easy scapegoat lately. I mean, the NHL series has sucked ass on the PC for years due to the same shitty engine with no improvements. Next-gen? My ass! You need a console for "next-gen" games.
 
Not a huge loss considering the game and all but still a loss for PC gamers in the end.
 
I heard from a friend's buddy on the internet that his girlfriend's brother's friend's dog was eaten by EA. I kid you not.

i could not agree with u more, im from the UK and many hardcore gamers with a brain prefer to game on a pc. i have had some of the best experience in football/soccer games on my pc due to mods and less kiddies playing online.

fifa looks like a great improvement over the last fifa08 game for the pc. EA have actualy tried to create a independed game for the pc not another port off the PS2 version.

im begining to see the lack fo quality in console games now. lack of aa, 720 max res and dire graphics and gameplay.
 
Doesn't bother me one bit. The "next" generation of madden have all been pretty bad. Heck, it took them 3years just to add fantasy draft to the game. They also made it so every time you run you fumble to ball. The defense is extremely hard and knows the play. At least in Madden 05 is was straight up fun and didn't have all these stupid gimmicks. What is up with the new stats? You get rid of training camp for pre-game training in stats that don't matter? God, my kicker really needs 'The Boot"! These stats are worthless and the events are either extremely easy or just down right stupid. Hey, lets go bench press, that will allow pass blocking to increase!!!

I think that most actually missed his point. It's not about just Madden; what about other devs? We see more and more ports coming to PC vs original titles that push the envelope.

IF EA comes to a deal with steam, I think we will see some improvement.
 
I can't in any way find how this is a negative thing. This game was horrible. Knowing Madden will no longer be made for the PC actually makes me sleep better at night. The game was horrific. I think my most memorable moment was in madden 2k2. Line men on the opposite team would tackle your receiver 20 yards down the field. How do they run faster? I will never know the answer to that.

actually there was a rather large following for madden on the pc. the online leagues for consoles suck in comparison to pc. the community has the ability to constantly release updated rosters depending on trades or new players drafted. running madden at 2560x1600 with all settings maxed 4xaa 16xaf i thought it looked much cleaner and all around better than any console version i have played.

Maybe in West Europe but it's still nothing compared to PC sales and console games are much more expensive and won't drop their price for a longer term. Even a crappy PSP game costs ~$75 a 6-12 months after release. Flatout 2 cost only ~$12 after 2 WEEKS and it is a more than playable game with online multiplayer and proper graphics compared to PSP or any other console.

You can't name a single game that has better graphics on console than on PC. And the great thing about consoles that if the SW (driver, os, etc.) is faulty you can't do anything except go back to the retailer if your warranty is still on and the best you will get is a replacement with the exact sam flaw. Consoles = Dumbness + Monopolism

When they will make a console that can run any apps, they will make a PC.
 
same thing with the NHL series.. the online community has always been alot more popular than the console community. nhldepot.net is one of the coolest sites for NHlL gamers. So I'd have to believe the madden pc community is larger. most gamers i know who play madden on whatever system are big into but never in an online/community kind of way

You have a very poor grasp of conversation. Nobody ever said consoles are better, but you seem clearly intent on proving that they aren't, in spite of nobody ever arguing that....

The simple fact that you seem to not want to accept is that consoles sell very well and make asstons of money in europe.

I am very excited for your response that will tell us about how pcs are better for gaming than consoles. Something we clearly didn't know before you told us.
 
list all the games u play on a pc and list all the games u play on a console. whichever machine u used more to play games is your best machine for gaming

I said it's nothing compared to PC sales.

You can make money by making 5 items for 10$ and selling one for (an @sshole for) $75.
Selling very well means that compared to competition (PCs or at least gaming HW) it is at least near or outsells them.

And with my last post I wanted to show that who buys a console is someone with too much money or a small brain. Or both. No offense but there is no good reason to buy a console instead of upgrading a PC.
I wrote that PCs are better because it's not obvious for everyone. If it would be obvious then people wouldn't be buying consoles at all.
