We both know their business practices are "LEGAL" but come to the point of un-ethical.

What kinds of examples of their business practice are unethical?

In my opinion, the worst of these is how they basically work their programmers to burnout state, with mandatory overtime for months at a shot. It's basically a brain drain. However, the same could be said about Apple in the early days.

Much of it is summed up in a famous LiveJournal entry, from the perspective of a wife of one of these excruciatingly overworked developers.

I submit you'll find earily similar working conditions in 99% of the companies in the United States. (including mine) I'm not saying it's right, I'm not saying it's cool, but I guess there has to be something to hate on this forum and EA is it.

I'm coming to grips with that. lol :) A while back it was Steam.

THANK YOU!

I will take no further part in the debate with the EA screechers, because you have created the most carved out essence of the situation. Astute, man. Kudos. :D

yes we know other companies also have bad practices.. that's not whta I"m coming to the point to. EA is at a breaking point of it. ... never mind.. I'm going to stop here.. that last link Aelfgeft put out breaks it all down. I've shared my feelings and thoughts.

Have a good one peepz. going to setup a Mandrake server woop woop

Good quote from the live journal.

"The EA Mambo, paired with other giants such as Vivendi, Sony, and Microsoft, is rapidly either crushing or absorbing the vast majority of the business in game development. A few standalone studios that made their fortunes in previous eras -- Blizzard, Bioware, and Id come to mind -- manage to still survive, but 2004 saw the collapse of dozens of small game studios, no longer able to acquire contracts in the face of rapid and massive consolidation of game publishing companies. This is an epidemic hardly unfamiliar to anyone working in the industry."

That quote is so true since that was posted in 2004 EA has taken over many more small studios. This monopoly that EA is heading for is going to ruin the games for the consumers. More competition= better products for the consumers... sadly people are still buying EA sub par games and supporting the EA Corporate employees. Its the consumers that are allowing EA to get away with making sub par products. Consumers have the power to stop EA on its path of destroying the gaming market by simply boycotting bad products from EA and buying quality products from its competitors.

So were the DICE employees compensated with the profits from the merger or did the head douchebag at DICE Canada just take all the money and told everyone else to fuck off?

lmao - It's just not fair! *sniff*

If the employees are compensated with salaries, they got their salary.

If they were paid hourly, they got their hourly wage.

The "head douchebag", as you so kindly put it, can make up whatever frickin' rules he/she wants. It's HIS/HER company. Look up the definition of ownership.

That's why private property is a bad thing. They should just make games for us and not charge us at all. And they better be perfect. ;)

Guys, a few points to consider.

EA doesn't hold these companies at gun point and run away with their business. You know, they have the option of saying no when EA throws money at them. So who's fault is it when EA tries to eat up a company and they agree to it? Sure not every working person at that company gets a say in what happens, but EA doesn't absorb their talent or kill them. You guys make it sound like they take everyone with talent and lock them away. They can form their own group or company if they want.

If you think EA is making a mess of the game industry and think they make garbage, then stop buying their product. It's that simple but let me break it down. No sale = No income = Adapt or close up business

But guess what, they make a ton of sales from no one other then yourselves. They could put a turd in a box and name it Battlefield 3200x and people will buy it. Blame those people for funding a company who spends their efforts trying to squeeze a soft brown lump into these new small game boxes.

...are you kidding? How about the fact that they've bought nearly every aspect of the football industry that could possibly be licensed?

Of course EA is unethical. Basically, all corporations are and have no legit reason to exist imho. You really have no case to argue against EA since there actions as of recently and the past are not so far from most companies, especially large ones.

Another "I hate EA" thread...
Strange how common they are and still EA is the by far biggest games company in the buisness. Mostly due to the idea to licence for example sports to console games and pushing them in mass.

Their trackrecord for innovation is exactly as good as anyone elses.
There are very few if any new ideas in any given game today.

EA is nowhere near a monopoly in the games industry. They buy profitable or promising companies to increase their shareholder returns. In effect the americans on this board who have savings in pension funds (the by far biggest investors on the US stock market)

If you don't like the company don't buy any games they publish. I myself have grown to have a very strong dislike for Blizzard over the course of playing WoW so I quit and have vowed to never buy a blizzard product again. It's fine to have opinions and shout bloody murder at EA or any other large company. But fact remains. The majority (which people often claim to be part of) doesn't agree. If they had agreed EA or whatever company you want to think about, would have been forced to change.

Where to start...

The "masses" are idiots, plain and simple. The educated are a minority. People have become convinced that they need to buy the latest roster update and texture swap for Madden/Need for Speed every year.

They release what is basically the same game with a new number every year. Madden gets an insignificant feature here and there, a new number, and a slew of glitches with each passing year.

They're there. They're just swallowed up by the massive onslaught of shovelware that is flooded onto the market.

EA bought the NFL license. EA bought the AFL license. EA bought the ESPN license. How can that be considered anything but monopolizing that genre of the gaming industry?

The majority won't know better unless they're told.

Damn straight! You tell them what to think! You know better than everyone!

Another epitome of the Anti-EA insanity.

Care to disprove anything I said or are you content in trolling?

I can cite examples of the stupidity of the masses, if you wish. I don't even have to stay within the realm of gaming, but I certainly can.

EA buying all those licenses isn't unethical. its just business. and crying about it isn't going to change anything.

whining crybabies. also a majority you are a part of, k600.

Do you know what Monopoly means?

I'll make it simple and highlight the important parts for you.

mo‧nop‧o‧ly [muh-nop-uh-lee] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation

2. an exclusive privilege to carry on a business, traffic, or service, granted by a government.
3. the exclusive possession or control of something.
4. something that is the subject of such control, as a commodity or service.
5. a company or group that has such control.
6. the market condition that exists when there is only one seller.
7. (initial capital letter) a board game in which a player attempts to gain a monopoly of real estate by advancing around the board and purchasing property, acquiring capital by collecting rent from other players whose pieces land on that property.

This has gone on far enough.

Act like children and you will be treated accordingly.
