E8550 was this replaced?

I have never heard of an E8550, maybe you mean an E6850?

Do you know anything about this CPU you are looking for? Is it dual core? Quad? Do you know clock speed or anything like that?

E8 implies that it is a 45nm dual core, and there are only 3 models of those (for now, more on the way).
These are the E8200, E8400, and E8500.
 
I know the E8600 is supposed to replace the E8500 as the top dual core cpu.
 
This may be old news or a typo by Danny Bui who mentioned it in the thread you linked.

The chip he was referring to was an E8500. If you are interested in top performance in the near future, E8600s will be out soon.
