Picked up an E8500 - I really havn't been into overclocking since yeaaaaaaaaaars ago (pretty much when we were playing with jumpers on the mobo, haha), so I really don't know what this chip can/can't do safely.

With an Asus p5q, artic cooler 7 freezer pro, can I just raise the FSB 10% (and only the FSB) to 3.45ghz and call it a day? or would that be too high for simple air coolign with this chip?

you could probably get to 3.6ghz with stock volts. you can get to 4ghz with a tiny bump in voltage.

3.8 me thinks since the e85 is 9.5 multi vs e8400's 9x. Of course ymmv but an o/c of 3.6(+) is pretty typical.

E0 stepping?

I recently got the E0 revision.

Put it in my RIG with HD4850 in CF.

Good results so far.

20,013!!! on 3dMark06

Benchmarked in its case with air cooling.

Idle temps below 40 degrees.

What vcore are you using? I can get my C0 stepping E8500 to 4.8GHz with 1.58v but it's only stable for benching because load temps are in the high 60s.

OP you should be able to get 3.6 with stock volts, probably even undervolted. I've been running 3.6 with only 1.16v for a few months now.
