E8400 vs E8500 (9.0 vs 9.5 multi)

I have the opportunity to purchase either of these for basically the same price. I know that they're supposed to top out at the same spot but....given price being equal would you pick the 9.0 multiplier of the E8400 or the 9.5 multiplier of the E8500?
 
Heh, yeah it seems that way. I seem to remember somebody (a couple of years back) talking about how it's nice to have a slightly smaller multiplier sometimes. I can't recall their reasoning.

sometimes that can be true, only if your setup cant handle high FSB. usually, you want a higher multiplier for best overclocks. thats why the extreme series cpus have unlocked multipliers.
 
You can always adjust the multiplier downward with the E8500 if you're feeling crazy. It's a pretty obvious decision in favour of the faster chip.
 
If you can find the E8500 cheaper than the E8400, then the answer's obvious. Otherwise, E8400 is the way to go.
