e8400 vs 6400+

It depends on what you are doing. I built my father a rig with a 6400+ and he couldn't be happier with how fast the thing is. I know damn well my E3110 at 4GHz simply blows his cpu away but then again, I mostly game while he looks at stock charts.
 
I had the same question earlier ths year. Well ... kinda...

I had a 5600+ i had OC'd to 3.0. It was decent. But I was curious if it would make much of a diffence going to the Intel set up w/a E8400.

Anyway, as said before it depends on what you are doing.

Once in windows, As far as reading emails, listening to music, surfing the web ... I couldnt tell really that much difference between them .. (even w/e8400 OC'd to 3.6) It was basically the same doing this stuff. <you wont tell a lot of diff. doing just this stuff>>


HOWEVER ... Vista seemed to boot faster .. programs seemed to load faster ... or maybe just me.
Gaming however I saw a HUGE improvement .. video encoding MUCH faster.
Overall the system felt more responsive.

If you just surf the web, read emails, watch some movies, listen to music etc and thats it .. it will NOT be worth the upgrade,

If you game, do light encoding or any other processor intensive task youll see a significant boost. I used to only have AMD's butI learned real fast a 3.0Ghz intel is NOT the same as a 3.0 AMD.
 
i think it was a pretty noticeable upgrade just going from an e6300 @ 3.15ghz to an e8500 @ 3.15ghz. going from an athlon x2 would be an even bigger jump!
