what should the cpu voltage be at (default) for:
Cpu Core?
Cpu FSB?

im getting 1.17v for CPU Core and 1.1v for CPU FSB. but then my computer is kinda slow and i want to make sure its not my processor

processor is an e8400
motherboard is a 780i

Processor voltage will not cause a CPU slowdown unless the voltage is the cause of CPU overheating.
Too low a voltage and it will crash.
Too high a voltage and the CPU will overheat. If it doesnt crash from it, then thermal throttling will slow the CPU down.

If you are at 1.17V, unless you have a cooling problem your CPU wont be overheating.
Check your load temp with Realtemp and report back.

Its a bit of a stretch to assume the CPU is the cause of a system slowdown though.
Its more likely to be malware on your PC unless you have some other evidence to help.
Can you explain how the slowdowns manifest?

I have a Q6600, and at stock volts it was running at 1.26v My VID is 1.325. Relatively speaking, yours looks pretty close difference-wise. If your computer is slow, are you sure it's not the memory?

well first off, my specs are

e8400@3ghz
780i
1.8v 2x1gb A-Data ram ddr2 800mhz
8800gtz
7200.11 32mb 500gb HDD
XP home

they arent really "slowdowns" which might suggest random decreases in speed. im saying the speed just doesnt seem to be there for the specs im running. while doing basic things like opening up a word document its a bit slow and just closing a window it kind of "glitches" i guess you can say. you click "close" but it doesnt fully disappear from the taskbar for a second or two. but then thats just one example. there when i double click to open a word document it takes 2 seconds to bring up word then another 3 seconds to actually load up word, then thats not counting the time to load up a file (takes 2 seconds to load up a 2100kb file in MS word 2007) Ive provided a screenshot of the benchmark i ran and it seems to suggest theres something wrong with my cache/memory bandwith as my setup is being outperformed by an e6700@2.66ghz 2x1gb ddr2 ram

Has it always done this or just recently started?
Can we have your load temp please?

its been like this ever since i first booted up this new machine
idle temp is 30C and load temp is 39C

The temps are great.
I only worry when I get around 65 - 70C under load.
Idle temps are more or less irrelevant as no specs have been released/the system isnt designed to allow even remotely accurate measurement at temps far from TjMax.

Download HDTune to test your hard drives speed. Its free from: www.hdtune.com/download.html
Select your drive and press start.
It will take a few minutes to complete, report the results here.

When you get the lag, how much CPU is being used?
Check with task manager, also note the names of processes that use most CPU as this might indicate the problem.

If you are bored/eager and want to do more, updating all the drivers and BIOS might help.
Before starting, just for kicks, check device manager to see that all devices are functional (ie they dont have exclamation marks etc).
Any exclamation marks indicate a driver is not installed or is not able to function.

1) Get the latest motherboard driver and install that.
2) If your drive is on one of the motherboards RAID controller SATA ports, update the RAID controller driver too.
3) Check you have the latest motherboard BIOS. If you have already got the latest, reset the CMOS as something might be corrupt.
Check to see if there is a separate BIOS for the RAID controller and update if so.

Let us know how you get on.

My HDD:
12ms access time
burst rate 86
average transfer rate 90mb/s

System Idle Process and Explorer are the only .exe's using CPU in the process manager when i get this "lag"

the bios and all drivers are up to date.
All devices are functional

What did you make of the screenshots i posted? theres something wrong there isnt there?
