E8400 Temperatures

I know alot about the temp problems with these processors but I still would like to bounce my temps off you guys and see if I am good. This is my first Intel. I have built two computers,this one being my second,never really paid a whole lot of attention to cooling. I am not an overclocker of any kind. I am running the stock hsf and with realtemp and speedfan my cores are about 38-42 degrees. Is this normal? It seems a little high from what I have been reading with no overclock. I guess I could upgrade to an aftermarket cooler,but was hoping to avoid that. Sorry for the noobness of my post. :)
 
Use the "real temp" program to monitor temps on 45nm chips. You'll see your temps to be in line once you use it.
 
I am using realtemp and they seem pretty good,but I am asking what should I expect to be normal for a non overclocked stock system? I guess I am just being anal,but its hard finding a straight answer around the internet because most people use aftermarket cooling oveclocked cpus
 
Normal temps aren't really relevant, especially idle temps. As long as you keep your system below 70C or so, you have absolutely nothing to worry about.
 
my temps never fall below 33c when idling regardless of what my room temperature is. i'm also running OC'd at 4.009ghz 24/7.

with these wolfdales, idle temp readings can vary from chip to chip. what is important is what realtemp shows when you are pushing your wolfdale during heavy cpu load.

these chips are "built" to be OC'd though. you can normally raise a few hundred mhz without even increasing the stock voltage.
 
I'm running at 3.9Ghz with 1.39vcore : 33c idle, 51-53c load

(With a tuniq tower)

Yeah, my E8400 runs about 36c/34c at idle conditions. Under a load it climbs to roughly 46c/44c, using RealTemp 2.5. That's with the stock Intel cooler.
 
OC'd to 3.8 stable @ 1.28v -- 1017 FSB on the ram =)

57c extended load in Orthos.
