e8400 Temperature Question

I bought a e8400 recently. Now, I know that the temperature reading from them are hit and miss, but is one core supposed to be constantly about 10 degrees higher than the other? I will post pics tomorrow when I get home, but basically, I have reseated the heatsink twice (Zalman 9500) and there is no change in temp. My old CPU, a e4300, was always within 2 or 3 degrees of each other, so I find this situation to be very odd. If anyone could provide insight into this, it would be much appreciated. Thanks!
 
2 possibilities, nothing to do with how flat the core cap is.

1) the paste underneath the shroud connecting the cpu core to the cap is badly placed.
This is tough luck fixable by getting another CPU.

2) One of the sensors is reporting wrong values, this is most likely as the sensors can be bloody awful anyway.
They are only calibrated to show the correct value when you have hit the throttling temp, not at any other temp.
 
I have a xeon e3110 which is the same as e8400. My core 0 was stuck at 46 c and core 1 was usually around 32 or 33 c. Well, found out my core 0 thermal sensor was 'stuck'. Are you noticing that one of the cores is staying the same temp under load as it is at idle? Also, make sure on core 2 duos that you use the line method to apply thermal paste. Basically, put that notch 'u' shape in the heat spreader closest to you and put a line of thermal paste strait up (vertically) from you. The cores on core 2 are stacked that way, so you're covering both cores equally.
 
Well, both cores move under load. One core isn't constantly "stuck", it's just that one core is around 10 degrees cooler than the other at all times.
 
I'd give that cpu and heatsink a good cleaning and reapply the thermal paste. Check out arctic silvers website for instructions, they pretty much work for all thermal paste.
