I intend to buy these parts when the E8400 CPU is available.

Everything is clear but the mobo? There are so many alternatives that I cant decide

Of course I dont know the E8400 overclock capability but I presume that with proper cooling (air) I can go 4ghz at daily use. 444 x 9 . I need a mobo that can deal with this.

SPECS

MB:
Gigabyte DS3R (gigabyte stability, reliability, but overheating and RAID issues?)
MSI Neo2 -FR (platinum quality for low price)
MSI Platinum (best heatsink cooling but stable?)
ABIT Silent Qtes (fan of abit currently using a NF7S v2.0 ;) but dont know how it performed in p35 platform)
(all P35)
(latest versions)

VGA: PALIT 8800GT Hdmi

CPU: Intel E8400 @4ghz

RAM: Crucial Ballistix Tracer

HDD: 2*250GB Seagate RAID ST3250410AS 3.AAC FW

Case: Thermaltake Armor+

HS: ZEROtherm Nirvana NV120

What does the Pro offer over the regular IP35?

Firewire, two additional SATA ports, two additional USB ports (internal header), two eSATA ports, heat-pipe coolers (which could be a bad thing if you want to watercool your NB), an additional PCI-E x1 slot (laughable), RAID, on-board power switches, and solid-state capacitors. If you don't need any of that, then you might was well go for the regular IP35.

Then I'm going to buy ABIT IP35 Pro

Is it worth the price? 180$ at newegg

DS3R 127$

From the poll I discard MSI.

And Asus gives me the impression that they do not build reliable, stable motherboards anymore. I prefer Abit pro and GB DS4 over ASUS P5K-E/WIFI

that's incorrect, it would be true from the IP35-E.
However, the IP35 has firewire & 6 SATA & RAID.
It doesn't have the uGuru, 2 eSATA, 2nd LAN, 2nd physical X16 PCI-E slot, onboard power & reset buttons, the external clearCMOS switch & "only" the important caps are solid instead of 100%.

I believe that the IP35 Pro is $150 after rebate at Newegg with free shipping & it's worth that.

Umm ok I guess my system running at 3.6 isnt a good sign of stable? The Abit gets good reviews so im sure it will do well but saying Asus isnt up to par just isnt true.

Gigabyte DS3R obviously!

its cheaper and has the same overclocking options as IP35 pro

Yea, I was looking at the IP35-E. I didn't see the regular IP35 listed on Newegg, so I didn't even realize there was another model. My mistake. I still say go for the IP35 Pro.

Just hooked up my Quad Q6600 with a P5K-E/Wifi-AP, it's a great layout, same PCB as the higher end P5K's, fits my system really well, and totally unleashed the potential of this processor compared to P5N32-E SLI Plus (650i NB + 590i SB).

It's a 6-layer design as well, so regardless of those 4-layer vs. 6-layer problems with 45nm Quads (that they were having, but are fixing before release anyway so it doesn't matter), well it doesn't matter so whatever..

While I've generally not been fond of MSI products, the MSI Neo2 -FR seems to be an amazing board judging by its Anadtech review. Less than a $100 yet retains basically all the features of the more expensive P35 boards and performs as well if not better.

If you want a P35 board to go over ~425Mhz FSB SDR, it needs to have good chipset cooling. The DS3R doesnt come with heatpipe cooling for the NB/mosfets, so you'll need to either put active cooling on the NB or change the HS to something like the TR HR-05(-SLI/IFX). Make sure your CPU cooler points air down to the mosfets, too. The Neo2-FR has heatpipe cooling for the NB/mosfets, so that board can reach your goal of 444Mhz FSB SDR without any additional changes to the chipset/mosfet cooling. The Abit IP35 is the same. I'd go for any gigabyte board in the DS series, any asus in the P5k series, or the abit ip35 pro -- my reason is because they can all save BIOS profiles, which helps when OC'ing.

The IP35 Pro has uGuru, which is one of the main selling points of the Pro, if you are a silent PC person that wants flexible control of their fans.

That's the latest.

I'm going to get a 8400 also. This should be a good combo.

Good luck - my IP35 Pro did not play nice with the E8400. Weird temp and voltages reported (227C CPU temp, then 2C) and lots of random BSODs. Looking at the Abit forums, I'm not the only one. Hopefully yours works out better than mine.

ABIT has not released a BIOS update for Penry.

I think problems will be solved upon the new update.

What about the DFI board? DFI LanParty LT P35-T2R Motherboard Chipset P35 Socket 775
is probably quite good.
