E8400 or Q6600...

i just bought e8400, P5Q and 2x2GB DDR-800 this week. because if it phased out next yr, then i will be wasted my money for it.

You wont have wasted your money, you can still use a product long after it's phased out.

In fact, I think the performance of the e8400 will allow it to remain a very usefull CPU for many years to come.

I'll say they're both good. It depends on if you multi-task more than the other. I'll be getting a e8400 soon. =D

IMHO, you made a good purchase that should last you at least 2 years if not more. Just tweak the PC with a better video card down the road and you should be happy with the results.

i am basically use this system for HTPC, but i dont know which HSF i shall buy?

i have P5Q vaillina and not deluxe or pro.

please help me pick a good, overclockable hsf?

Tuniq Tower, Xigmatek S1283, and the TRUE 120 are all excellent and have been discussed in hundreds of topics on these forums. Do a search and check it out, though I will mention they are all great so a lot of it is down to pricing and personal preference.

I'm replacing my E4500 (OCed to 2.93) with a Q6600 which I will set to run at 333fsb (3 GHz). This is on a MSI P6N SLI 650i board. The question is whether I will need to do anything to get XP to recognize the 2 extra cores? I'm mainly doing this because I use it to encode HDTV shows to x264 and it will supposedly use all 4 cores. Will it be plug and play?
