Feel free to post your E8xxx overclocks here.

Set the rad in the window.Chilly here today 32-35F(outside).Room temp 72F.

Looking good to me. What kind of cooling are you using? This post has a guy with the same Core Temp version reporting temps way higher.

Water.Room temp 69F.Chip at idle with C1E and EIST off.Something has to be wrong with his mount or temp program.Maybe hi ambient temps.Mine loads no where near his.24/7 for this chips appears to be around 450FSB.Back to the play ground.I'll see if 500+FSB is in the chips future.

i'm on stock hsf, will pick up something else next week and try to go higher, however it is stable @ 4ghz *shrug*

would a tuniq tower have a great increase in overclocking over the stock hsf? i hope so, that's why i bought it.

my goal is at least 4ghz

Temps are not a issue at all on water or quailty air cooler.Just think around 4Ghz is what most people will run 24/7 stable.

Shweet bro! Looks pretty good - I'm looking at getting one of those bad boys maybe this week, but I already had to shell out $1000 on my car's service this week

I'll see how it goes...

ok heres where im at :
4.0
8 x 2000 link-n-sync
1.4250v in bios/ 1.408v cpu-z
fsb 1.4
ram 2.1 @ 1000-5,5,5,15
rest on auto
idle 18C load 48C core/ 57C cpu (everest)
played about 2 1/2 hours COD4 max temp 39C / 43C
but orthos still locks up , max temp was with prime95 small FFt's
going to try in place large FFT's
think my issue is the ram.

18C on air? You leave the heat off all winter?

took the cd/dvd roms out, stuck a 3rd fan in the front of the case, all fans on medium . mother board temp reads 25C/ 77F.

My point is that 18C eqautes to 64.4F. So unless your ambient is colder than that I'm calling shenanigans on those numbers. 25C I can believe, but 18C not so much.

Eh. In my old place my heater made the room smell bad so I never had it on in the winter. I just dressed warm while in the house and the room sat around 55-60F, so its believable IMHO.

I can see some people here wearing a few sweaters in exchange for a better overclock lol.

I have read where some are claiming the E8400 core temp sensors are incorrectly reporting at low temps.

My IP35 Pro reports mine is at 2C. That's a lot better than what it initially reported, 227C. I like the 2C number better.

Still playing with mine, got it yesterday.

cpu: E8400 @ 4.0ghz
Mobo: MSI P35 Neo2-FR 1.6bios
CPU Cooler: Coolermaster Hyper 212 (load temps of 49/52c with coretemp)
Ram: 2x1GB Gskill HK DDR800
GPU: Galaxy 8800GT

FSB: 445
cpu volatge: 1.35v
Multi: 9
Ram Ratio: 5:6
Memory timings and voltage: 5-5-5-15 @ 2.2v
Memory speed: 1068mhz

Why are you running at 5:6 as opposed to 1:1?

No reason other than the Gskill is good to about 1100mhz. I am still testing. Right this moment I am running it at almost 1 1/2 hours of Orthos at 456x9 (4104Mhz) @ 1.37v with 1:1 memory divider (912Mhz @ 2.1v) with 4-4-4-12 timings. So just trying to find out where everything is happiest.

My E8400 starts to ramp up heat as more voltage is applied. 1.35v tops out at around 52c under coretemp, 1.37v hits 58c

I have been running Orthos for 3 hours now @ 4.014 - 9*446 @ 5-5-5-15, temps right around 62-63, voltage reading 1.32 in CPU-Z. I have a Lian Li case and the side is off for better airflow during test. Can't uderstand why my temps are so high. I am using Artic Silver 5 - one strip down the middle.

Update - changed settings to 500 x 8 (5-5-5-15 @ 2.1v) and lowered CPU voltage to 1.405 in the bios, ran Orthos overnight 6.5 hours, no errors, temps under max load around 58-59 degrees, which is a little better than above. Still, idle temps in mid to upper 40s, which seems awfully high since my e6600 ran at mid to high 20s idle and low 40s under load. It is significantly cooler at 3.6, however, 4 ghz is that magic number.

i cant get it stable at 4ghz. it's stable at 3.7ghz at 51c, 1.208v.

I have the bus at 410, i'm obviously aiming for 445 though. im going to try 420 next.

Anyone got anything definitive on the E8400 @ 4ghz vs the E4300 @ 3ghz? I saw one person that had only a slight increase in performance. If that is the case then I prolly won't bother with an upgrade once tax time comes.

In what? Games tend to stop scaling once you hit about the 2.4Ghz to 2.6Ghz mark, not all games mind you but the vast majority. There are encoding applications and other similar programs that are much more reliant on the CPU that will show a much better increase. So really it's you need to determine on your use.

On topic: Very impressive OC's. Would like to see if these temperature reporting issues have any merit. On the whole though, impressive indeed.

In overall performance. The person that I was referring to ran SuperPi and saw only a slight gain. I know that there are improvements to the chip and the 45nm should keep it cooler. I was just wondering if those findings were accurate or not.

Yippee, I'm skint !
Thanks to the 4Ghz reports on the E8400, yesterday I plunked down my project cash on a Gigabyte A-X38-DS4, E8400, MX2 paste and Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme cooler :)

What broke my resolve was after volt modding my 8800GT to 1.25V Vcore, it gets 820/1944 clocks and performs almost no better with my A64 x2 2.8GHz.
This is especially apparent in Crysis which got less than 1% improvement.
Knocking the cards clocks down by around 20% didnt make much difference either so the card is heavily CPU limited in my current system past about 80% of its rated speed.

I can tweak VCore higher too for even higher clocks but theres no point until I get the Intel kit,
Does anyone know the approximate max Vcore the GPU can take if well cooled (Accelero S1)?

I cant wait to see what this GT will do with a fast C2D system :)
