Hello all. I finally got my new RAM and been trying to OC my CPU a bit more, to reach my goal of 3.6, 400/800 - which my old RAM fell just short of.
I ended up getting these : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145194
I had a couple questions though hoping someone who knows more than I can help.
First of all, I have the DFI X48 Dark board, and there is no actual adjustment for CPU voltage. Only a special add option.
@380 FSB and 3.4 I had to only give a little voltage.. +.025 to be 100% stable. this was = to 1.2V ... around 1.9 under load. approx.
I found going to a 400 fsb to get the 3.6 and 800 speed RAM required a few bumps in voltage to get there. In fact, +.0875.
ATM, Im showing 1.28V @ idle and 1.24 under full Prime load. (vdroop i know
)
Also, I was showing idle temps at around 41C and load around 58-59.
NOW, im showing 44-45 idle and on avg 63 loaded, (spuikes at times 64-65)
Now, as far as my temps, im goping by my DFI Guardian. I have used real temp as well, and it shows basically 5C cooler.
Topping out around 60C averaging 55C under full load.
I have read w/the 8400's real temp isd actually the most accurate, However, for the sake of argument, lets assume the guardian is correct since it is the highest.
So, my 2 questions:
is the 1.28 volts too much for this cpu?
IS a 63C avg or so OK?
I have tried lower voltage 1 bump down @ a time, but it fails in prime 95 either immediately or after a minute. Still stress testing but actually stable at these setting under full load for an hour now. (I know i must test more)
May sound dumb, just dont wanna go to far, or push temps to high. Better safe than sorry
. It just seemed a bit of a jump in voltage and heat to get here from what it was.
BTW, being Prime 95 kept giving rounding errors pretty fast, I ran memtest overnight. (14hrs actually) and it says RAM is just fine. It would appear it was voltage ;-/
**EDIT: I just reseated the HS as well, using MX2 TIM, and it hasnt been shutdown for any length of time since. Perhaps it will drop in temps after a burn in?? Im not sure but seems its not jumping over 62-63 now under full load.(according to dfi guardian)
Thanks all.
