i got a hold of one of these things from work so i was wondering i could i put that e8400 to replace an aging e6600 in a Bad Axe II board or should i sell the board and get a mobo that can fit that adequately. If so how much should i expect to get out of this board if i pulled off that route. I'm trying to do a stop gap before i go all out for a new system next year.

I believe that board will support 45nm C2Ds, but if you've got the chip anyway, you may as well just give it a shot and see. You may need a BIOS update, so just head over to Intel's website and grab the latest one for your board.

Anything pre-P35 will be fairly hit or miss with 45nm. If I had to place a bet I would say that it would not be supported on that board.
