hey guys, ive been lurking around the forums for a while now, figured i'd start throwin in my .02 here and there. so anywho, on to my question:

how high has your e8400 gone on air cooling?

and more importantly:

what the max load temp for it?
ive heard 60C is like the "do not cross" line with the 8400, but then i've seen people post in other forums about hitting load temps of 65-67. so, just wondering what the consensus was here. any input would be great.

for the record im running an EVGA 750i FTW mobo, and an artic freezer 7 pro heatsink. thanks!

I have an E0 stepping and i'm running it @ 1.24v @ 4ghz 500*8. I'm using an Xigmatek hdt-s1283, it max out around 60-69 running IBT/LinX and 50 ish during Prime95. I haven't pushed any further yet though but i've seen 4.5 and more on XS this is with the GA-UD3P45.

E0s typically hit 4-4.2GHz or higher, and C0s usually hit 3.8-4GHz or higher. As for temps, there is no real "do not cross" line. You can run your CPU up to a core temperature of up to 100C with a reasonable degree of safety, although I personally like to stay below 80C. I would recommend that you keep your chip at least 20C from Tjmax for extended periods of time.

if you dont have your e8400 yet i have new in box (sealed) e8500 e0 for $150 shipped. which will probably go a little higher at same vcore/temp.

I'm running my E8400 C0 at 3.4 @ 1.2v on stock cooling and my highest temp on prime95 was 53C. I'm putting a better HSF on it tomorrow when it comes in and going for the 4.0 mark.
