Hey I'm having a hard time getting my E8400 to stay stable at a 300MHz Overclock even increases the v-core to 1.277 and no dice (one core always fails after 1 hour of P95 and it's never the same one), so i go and start searching the net to find out there is thermal sensor problems and also good batches and bad batches, now this is were my headache begins. I can't seem to find a straight answer on good or bad batch's and to top it off i can't find out mine (yes the CPU box is long gone) and no one mentions another way to find out :(

So I'm stuck on stock till I know weather I should be overclocking or not, anyway here she is

Man I feel bad for ya.Literally everyone gets a good oc with that cpu,you have a good board also.

I got my old E8400 up to 4.4ghz on a p35 pretty easy with ddr2 800mhz ram
 
the batch is printed on the ihs. why are you limited to 1.277v on the vcore? also, there are other voltages that sometimes need adjustment. its a very rare e8xxx that cant hit at least 3600. you would have to suspect ram or mb.

Well I'm just nervous with the V-core I don't want to kill the dam thing and reading that some chips have poor thermal core senors i just don't think i should be pushing to 1.3v on the stock heat sink but i get up to 1.7v-core, and BTW IHS = Intel Heat Sink right?? if so it says:

in that order from top to bottom but which one is the batch #, I thought the E8400 were all like QU78E2 or something like that, anyway I hope non of these numbers are case sensitive :p
For the Ram, I have Memtester 86 complete 2 passes with no errors at stock speeds so I think it's fine.


Oh BTW I'm going to grab up a after market HSF tomorrow any suggestions, I'm going to this store http://www.oemdepot.com/index.asp but I'm sure they will have somthing better than the E8400 stock and still be quite most of the time.

I have my E8400 FSB set at 1505 right now ( 3.41 Ghz ) without upping any voltage.

Did you by chance put too much or too little thermal grease on the cpu ? Just had to ask. What is the CPU temps ?
 
I notice in the screenshot that your CPU is at 1.096V, not 1.277V.

btw I have been running my E8400 @ 1.4V for 1.5 years .
 
Hey I just need to know if my CPU is good to go for overclocking, I'm reading PPL are overclocking there E8400 to 4GHz under 1.3v and I can even get mine stable at 3.3GHz and 1.277v my head hurts.......

and I am off to get a new cooler, the thermal compound was on the stock HSF and my temps are 37-40 oc Idle and 70-73 Oc under heavy load (this is when it is overclocked)
 
Set your Vcore to something like 1.325V, and raise your NB, CPU PLL, and FSB termination voltages each by 0.1V. Also, make sure you run a small FFT test in Prime95 and not blend, since blend will test your RAM as well. Right now we just want to see if we can get your CPU stable.

this guy is right. if you are going to overclock, and you have decent cooling, you cant be afraid to give it a little juice.

btw, your cpu should look like this, and the bottom line is your batch.

ok, i had a similar problem with my q9550 not clocking over 3.0 stable, after further reasearch i messed wit ha setting in bios GTLREF that mine was turned down somehow. I adjusted it back up to 0 for all cores and now i have it up to 4.0, hope you have a similiar setting and this can help you

I sure did, grabbed up a Zalman CNPS7500-CU LED and at stock it looks like the temps are improved, ho much i not sure but i will know after i start to give here juice

and found that dam number: Q844A678, now i'm going to start to look her up to see what she can do, will update on that soon hopefully

Stock cooler ? That is the reason. Intels coolers are not good for overclocking at all......

Zalman cooler you mentioned is not all that good for a better overclock either. Time you either spend at least $50 or more bucks on a decent cooler for overclocking or expect lower overclocking.
 
Arctic cooler freezer 7 pro is what I had and I hit 4.4ghz on mine with a gigabyte p35-ds3l mobo and 2x2 corsair xms2 ram
 
that sucks, got mine up to 4.1 :D just bad luck i guess?

while a new HSF will most definitely help and the intel cooler does suck for overclocking, mine does 3.6ghz on the stock cooler with 1.25v. Even if he doesn't get 3.6ghz, he should at least be able to get some sort of overclock with it.
 
Personally I think it's a voltage issue. He is mentioning 1.277 but we read 1.09 or something. what's that? vdroop? doesn't make sense this much at such a low voltage. corrupted cmos?

There is absolutely NO WAY he has had 'a bad sample' that won't let him clock past 3.33GHz. ALL (and I mean ALL) E8xxx series can be run at FSB1600. Even C0 didn't require much voltage, if any, to do it.

I'm running a E0 E8400 at 9x400 with 1.175V VCore (1.16V cpuz).

Could you key in 1.3V Vcore and see what cpuz reports as Core Voltage? Idle and Load?
