e6850 to Q9650

Hello, I was thinking of upgrading my CPU. Would i benefit from this upgrade? I mostly use it for gaming. Here is my sys specs.

CPU: E6850 3.0 ghz
MB: EvGA 122-ck-NF68 680i
Memory: Corsair pc2-6400C4
Video: XFX 8800gtx 768 Extreme
PS: 1000watt
HD raptor 150

not worth the upgrade IMHO. you should overclock that E6850

For improvements in gaming, you always get a lot more bang for the buck when you upgrade your video card, not your processor. It would definitely be a good idea to overclock your E6850. They have a lot of head room.

For the cost of a Q9650, you'll notice a bigger difference in gaming performance if you upgrade to something like a GTX285.

I kind of like the heatpipe cooling solution on the MSI card but there are many other cards to choose from. You could sell your present card on EBay to reduce your expense a little further.

if it were me i would upgrade both if you can afford it, if not i would upgrade the CPU to quad core.

Like unclewebb said, you'd see a much bigger improvement in gaming from getting a new video card. Although it also depends a lot on what resolution you game at.

I'd go Quad, but not that Quad Core. Get the Q9550, it's a little slower, but you can overclock to at least 3.6 Ghz. If you were going from Quad 6xxx to a Quad 9xxx then get a videocard (I'd recommend a 4890 BTW) But from a Dual 6xxx to a Quad 9xxx you really should go with a CPU...you'll see a nice jump in general performance.
