e6750 worth it?

hey, thinking of getting a e6750. I have seen some not so great clocks out of these. Are they just the chips that didnt make e6850 quality? or is it just the luck of the draw
 
So far I've only heard of 1 that cannot make it to 3.2ghz on stock voltage.

The rest all can get to 3.5-3.6ghz anywhere from 1.45 volts to 1.57 volts. I dont think this is great, but is within what the legendary 6600 could be before they lowered the quality on that.
 
Mine does 3.2 on stock voltage... I have it now at 3.64ghz @ 1.56v... It did 3.4ghz @ 1.48V and from what ive seen mine isnt the best overclocker of the bunch.
 
My e6750 is stable @ 3.4ghz 1.35v (bios). So I'd say it is definitely worth it.

Yea, I'd prolly run 3.8ghz if I was on water too, what are your load temps? setup?
 
I had one before I got my Quad, it did 3.2 on stock volts easy anything more required a lot more volts. I finally got it to 3.5 on 1.532 volts in BIOS and CPUz showed 1.284 in it. It's one helluva chip for the price.:D

CPU-z would read low on mine also but uguru showed me what it was really getting. Looks like our chips were about the same.
 
I had mine at 3.2ghz on air before I put it down to stock settings. Really an excellent overall processor.
 
If you are willing to wait for the penryn chip coming in feb - you could overclock to 4ghz on air. That will blow away anything out there so far.

3.2-3.6 is more than enough for gaming, and if you wanted to encode movies you would move to quad core. Keep in mind at 3.2 ghz there isnt a dual core processor at stock that can touch it. So you effectively already ahve the fastest dual core in the world.

Have you noticed a trend? When the model first appears it will overclock to hell and back - about 2 months afterwards with the new steppings the max overclocks does a steady decline.

Mine was made I think 3-4 months after the first stepping came out.
 
Is it worth waiting for the E8400? It's only about a month away, costs the same as the e6750, and has the same stock non-overclock speed as the E6850.

In other words does E6750 @ 3.2-3.6 GHz == E8400 @ 3.0 at stock?

I am the type to overclock for fun to see how far i can take it, at stock cooling, but then i'll just run at stock cpu.
 
I had an E4400 running at 3.4ghz @ 1.375V with a budget Freezer cooler. This chip is only 130$ but also less cache. Just figure out what is in your budget and go from there.
 
mine does 3.6Ghz @1.35v cpuz 1.41v in the bios i have just come from a amd 6000+ and i love this chip
 
I just got mine a few days ago. I got it at 3.520 with I believe 1.44 or 1.45 in bios and its currently +8 hours in orthos. I got it 24 hour stable with 1.47v

I couldn't get it stable at 3.6 at 1.47v and I wasn't sure if I should go much higher with the voltage. I was actually gonna make a post about it but here seems a good place to ask as its relevant to the cpu...

How high can i safely up the voltage on air without causing damage or seriously lowering the life-span(less then 5 years).
When I had it at 1.47v it was 38*C load

Also, would PWM and chipset temps effect my OC? and at what point do they become an issue?

38C load? Are you on water? If you are getting those kind of temps I don't think you'll have to worry about any life span issues at that voltage

edit: nvm, I see you're using a Ultra-120, those things must work very well
 
it actually peaked to 39. Thats with an ultra120 extreme. I got a lian-li a05 so I get the coldest possible air right to the cpu.

Is it safe to take it past 1.5? How high? Or should I be going by temp and not voltage?

It's good aslong as you back it up with good RAM, Mobo and the most important part, a good PSU.

I'd like the think I bought good quality stuff. I coulda have gotten the whole system for a few hundred less if I skimped.

Dell pushed theirs to 1.6v on the H2C.

I guess I'll venture into 1.5x volts. I keep my desktop on 24/7 so maybe I'll keep my "OC to the max" profile for lans and shit to show off. But I definitely want to see how far i can take it before I settle at 3.4/5
 
3.2GHz at stock voltage, 3.4 at 1.4V. I keep it at 3.2 because I don't see any reason to go higher for gaming.
 
can you use speedstep with it at stock voltage? I'm pretty sure i was able to get 3.2 at stock, dunno about stability tho, and it would be kinda nice to be able to have it drop the multi when I'm not using it or overnight and stuff
 
that is how i have mine running 3.6Ghz when im using it then speedstep kicks in when im not using it down to 2.7Ghz iv not had any problems
 
thats sweet. I had some issues when i first set everything up and started ocing so i disabled speedstep, but it may have been an unstable fsb/voltage combo anyway. I'll have to give it a shot once it get my final numbers

*little update on my oc: 22 hours and couting 3.520 @ 1.45v orthos stable (down from 1.47v)*
 
mine gets 3.6 @ 1.35 volts on abit ip35-e, its a really nice chip, and also with c1e and eist u get 2700mhz on idle and when doing lighter tasks, then it kicks up to 3.6 under load, its a rly good chip. definitely worth it.

mines at 3.6ghz at 1.41vcore.The max is 4ghz at 1.56vcore with a freezer 7 pro.I will be water cooling soon.I bought this for a stepper till penryn,and it is really good.
 
I, uhh, run my E6750 at the stock settings, and it's really fast. :D I can overclock though. Just haven't bothered.

Me too. I just wonder what yall are running to take advantage of the overclock. I still have the stock fan so I don't want to push the chip up too far.

How much more power is consumed @ idle when overclocked?

Same here, stock volts @3200, it would prob go lots more, but I need to get better ram....my dividers won't allow a lower ram speed so it goes south pretty quick at much over stock ram speeds.

How did you install the true? At that temps you are getting, you should post an FAQ on how to install a TRUE :D
 
To the above poster, 1.5V is the max range of the e6750. If you account for v-droop you can push it past 1.5V in the bios, I believe. Double check this! You don't want to fry your chip just to get a few points off of 3dmark!

i just installed my e6750 today on a gigabyte x38-ds4. its OCed to 3.2Ghz on 400Mhz DDR2, stock cooling, small even amount of AS5...
1) idle temp: ~34C load temp: ~57C
2) just select a 1:1 fsb to ram ratio. my FSB is 400Mhz. my ram is at its stock PC6400 800Mhz settings (4-4-4-12).
3) dunno
4) i dont even know if my computer is on by listening to it. 120x fan in the rear, 90x in the front and again, stock cpu cooling. ( i have a crap video card though).

That's a very good overclock. I wish I could push mine to that level but on one test i push past 375x8 and my divX got a memory or app error (can't remember which). Are your volts on stock as well? Did you have to increase fsb/mch voltage?

I've read that AS5+ stock can work well, and your temps show it (mine would go to at least 62C on orthos).
