Is it true that the heatspreader ontop of the core is slightly concave on the E6700, the hsf isn't matting 100% flush? And because of that E6700 is 10C hotter than E6600? I wanted to get 6700 but now I'm starting to wonder.

The E6600 can OC just well as the E6700,you are wasting money going for it

What in the hell is this thread about?

The IHS on any model of CPU can be concave or have other flaws. It's a manufacturing defect, which does not distinguish between different types of CPU.

yea, my e6400 IHS sucked. After lapping, i dropped 8C load temps. And that was with 1000 grit. Could be a tad more with 2000.

both my E6600 and E6700s have flat IHS with beveled edge IHS... but the E6700 does run 6-8C hotter than E6600 and clocks slightly less than my E6600

all below on Swiftech G4 Storm with Asus P5W DH Deluxe 0801 bios

E6600 B1 max 32M stable
@4023mhz at 1.6625v bios set (1.62-1.64v)
@4043mhz at 1.675v bios set (1.64-1.65v)

E6700 B1 max 32M stable
@4004mhz at 1.65v bios set

but with E6700 at 1.6625v and 1.675v vcore seem less stable probably due to 8+ C higher temps at idle and load compared to my E6600. 48C idle (E6700) vs 40-41C idle (E6600).

Single 32M

Dual 32M

Guess for E6700 i'll need to freeze it :D
