E6700 - Is it worth it?

I'm looking to build a new system pretty soon and I'm leaning towards the Core 2 Duo E6600. Is there any reason to upgrade to the E6700? As far as I can tell the only difference is the clock rate.

From the reading I've been doing on here it seems that the E6600 overclocks very well. I think I would be much better off investing that $200 into a water-cooled system and just OC the 6600.

Is that the best thing to do for my money?

clearly 6600 to 6700 is a waste of money....even an x6800 is a waste of money. Think about it - all three are the same exact CPU - just that the 67-6800's are clocked at higher speeds and the 6800 has unlocked multiplier.

They are the same exact procesor, but isnt 6700/6800 the same procesor screened to be operated at those specs. ? Thus a somewhat more tolerant chip to be able to clock higher?

I went with the e6700 but only because I got a proven overclocker for cheap.

One thing that I like about the e6700 is the higher mulitplier. It's easier on the ram and has less chance of hitting a FSB limit of a mobo.

Not necessarily. If the yields on the CPU are good enough, it may be that there are more of them that could be binned as X6800 2.93GHz CPU's than not. However, in order to meet the demand for CPU's at various lower price points, it is likely that they simply fill the purchase orders with the CPU's as needed.

e6700 is definently not worth it in my opinion.

It's the same exact chip except it has a x10 multiplier - which is really not required. The x9 multiplier is perfect. Any DDR2 800 RAM will gaurantee you 3.6Ghz on an e6600. A good mobo hits 400fsb no problem. Pretty much it's all dependent how good your cooling and how good your chip is.

I've heard that the 30xx series conroes can bin higher than the equivalent Exxx series, but that's all just speculation
