E6600 vs E6750

why is the E6600 more expensive than the E6750.
I was thinking about going with the E6750 for my upcoming build.
I will OC but i just want my oc to get to 3.0-3.2... nothing to to major..
whihc one will be easier to get their and why? i read some stuff about e6600 being a 8x and e6750 being a 9x. and one you dont need to oc ram and the other you do....
any help wil be nice

The E6600 is a 1066 fsb part and nearing end of life, thats why it's more expensive.
The E6750 is a new 1333 fsb part and in my and many others opinion it is the best bang for the buck at the moment.
I personaly would go with the 640 mb 8800 love mine. I also have the DS3R mobo and love it too. Everything else looks ok.
You can see by my sig I went with the E6750.
 
e6600=9 multi vs e6750=8multi only thing thats important. some mobo's are FSB limited which means higher multi=good.
 
E6x00's have 1066FSB and higher multipliers.... making them "easier" to overclock (at least FSB/motherboard wise)

E6x50's have 1333FSB & lower multipliers, which means you might hit a bottleneck on your motherboard, before the chip hits its limit.

E6600 = 9x 266 = 2.4Ghz
E6700 = 10x 266 = 2.66Ghz
X6800 = 11x 266 = 2.93Ghz ( -unlocked multipliers)

E6750 = 8x 333 = 2.66Ghz
E6850 = 9x 333 = 3.00Ghz

Even though the E6x00's have higher multipliers, which in theory should be easier to overclock.
In practice, I'd still go with an E6x50 b/c you're guaranteed a newer stepping which will overclock better.
 
also i was wondering

i herd there was one of the processors that you didnt have to oc the ram. you could run it at 1:1

the E6600 would have to run at 3.2ghz to run at 1:1 with dd2 800
and
the E6750 would ahve to run at 3.6ghz to run at 1:1 with ddr2 800

please correct if im wrong ive never oced ram before...
 
In short, yes.

3.2Ghz for linked/synced at DDR2-800 with the E6600
3.6Ghz for linked/synced at DDR2-800 with the E6750

Both will hit these speeds easily, and any decent OCing board will hit 400 real FSB. 400x9=3600, 400x8=3200.

Intel quotes FSB as 4x real as it's "quad pumped". You ideally want to be running your RAM 1:1, and DDR2-800 means it should be running at 400Mhz real, 800Mhz DDR2.
 
so i should get ddr2 800 instead of ddr2 1066?

will the e6750 run stable at that high of speeds?

like i said earlier i want it to be really stable and not heating it up ridicously...

Depends on the ram I had 2 GB of cheap Gskill ddr2 800 that would do 900 easy but nothing over that. The highest I could get my 6750 was 3.4 stable with it. After I got the OCZ ddr2 1066 ram I was able to hit 3.5 with my 6750.
 
EDIT: Got stuff backwards. OP, your math was backward before and I went with it. 1600 FSB (400 real) gets you 3.6Ghz with the E6600 and 3.2Ghz with the E6750.
 
alrihgt well yall got me confused now.. please clarify which way is up and which way is down... lol

So with DDR2-800 you get 3.2Ghz with the E6750. If you want higher, get faster RAM or get some DDR2-800 that'll OC fairly well.
 
so then should i get ddr2 1066? i dont really plan on ocing much more than 3.2
but i want it to be rock solid stable
 
It'll be perfectly stable at 3.2, but if you go higher you'll probably have to relax timings on the RAM to get it to play along if you go with DDR2-800. If you will be happy with 3.2 DDR2-800 is fine. If you want higher than that then yes, get some DDR2-1066.
 
alright than i think im going to go with the 1066 ram

i think if i wait a month like im planning my budget might be around 1800 for my new build!

i might even experiment with some water cooling,,,
 
IF you can afford faster ram, it never hurts to have some extra (speed) headroom or if you don't get lucky & reach a higher overclock, you can tighten the timings up at the slower speed.
