e6600 vs e6400

I was gonna get an e6600 in a couple of weeks, but i may be able to get an e6400 for < £60. Is it worth getting the worse cpu for value for money? What do you guys think?
 
Well, you need to change your way of thinking. The E6400 is not the "worse" processor, it is simply the lesser processor of the two. It has 2mb Cache vs 4mb on the E6600, and slower initial clock speed.
 
If you're cheap and you don't want to pay for the 6600, even though it's a a pretty good sweet spot, the 6420 is a bit cheaper and still has the 4mb cache. Just a 8x multiplier instead of 9. So 2.13 instead of 2.4 stock.
 
My E6420 hits 3.2Ghz easy, so unless you're going for something super-high it looks to be a good choice, saves some cash. I plan to replace it and the motherboard once a quad core I'm interested in comes down enough in price, put this and the 680i SE board in a quiet machine.
 
Are you doing any oc'ing? If so, how much of an oc are you looking for? You your goal is to reach something like 3.6 then get a 6600. If not then take silent-circuits advice and pick up a 6420.
