quick question about temperature:
setup is e6600 w/scythe ninja rev b. at 42c idle (case fan on low), stock voltage/no oc - is this normal? or do i need to reseat the ninja?

note that at this temp, i can touch the heatsink and it doesn't even feel warm (more like cold). also putting the case fans on "high" it only drops to 41c

Is EIST and C1E enabled? On my E6600, it's closer to 30C at idle using a Scythe Ninja. Still, I only reach 42C idle when overclocked to 3.24GHz/1.35v so you may want to try remounting the Ninja. I also got better temperatures using a more generous amount of AS5.

hmm, does your ninja get hot/warm around 42c? if so, its probably my fault with the AS5. how did you apply yours? i just did what the instructions said to do (on the arctic silver website) which was a straight line.

Actually, it's likes yours it feels very cool too. Only the bottom plus the sections of the heat pipes near the bottom get warm. The AS method was the way I used too so I guess its not that. What's your load temperatures using Orthos?

well, newegg sent me a defective windows disc so i cant even install windows at the moment (CRC errors) :( however im about to install my pirated version so ill let you know in a few minutes.

just an update:

i reseated/reapplied AS5 and the ninja and here are the results (note the temps from the first post was with the side panel OPENED, these are with the side and front panels CLOSED on antec p180)

room temp: 21c
cpu fan 1000-1259rpm
case fans on low/low
vcore 1.13-1.14
speed 2400mhz

idle (absolute highest/average)

speedfan: 41/41
core temp: 37/36
probe: 41/41
TAT: 40/37

orthos (absolute highest/average)

speedfan: 60/58
core temp: 55/53
probe: 60/57
TAT: 54/51

seems TAT and core temps show nearly the same temps which is usually lower, and speedfan and probe are also nearly the same showing higher temps. as a comparison to the first temp readings (42c with case side opened, which was read from BIOS - same as probe, with the case opened, TAT read 36/33 while probe read 38/37c. having said that, are these temps normal now? or do i need to reapply AS5 again? supposedly the AS5 requires a "break in" period which after will drop another 2-5c. any thoughts/comments?
