E6600 overclocking question.

I am planning on building a new gaming system with the E6600 and want to be able to overclock in to around 2.8ghz. My question is will the heatsink and fan that comes with the processor be able to cool the chip or should I but an after market cooler.
 
Should be fine. I've oc'ed my 6320 on the stock cooler from 1.8 to 2.5 and there is barely a 1degree C difference between stock and OC. Stock cooler working fine for these non extreme overclocks.
 
2.8 will be fine.

You can overclock it, and if it's too hot, then you should upgrade, but try first.
 
I would suggest upgrading to a $20-$30 cooler just for the fact that it will be much quieter and easier to install.
 
You can pickup the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro for under $25 and it'll be a nice improvement over the stock HSF for your mild overclock.
 
As an aside here - I OC'd my E6600 to 2.8G also. It happened to be the highest OC I could get with stock voltage, so that may help a little also. Stable for 9 months now. Good luck!
 
I heard the e6320's (Same as 6300 but 4MB L2 Cache - 1.83GHz 7x multi) were good OC'ers - so I picked one up.

3GHz / stock voltage / 426MHz FSB with my P5K deluxe & Tuniq Tower-120.

What's your batch? Mine is L651B and I can't get it to run above 7x400 without having stability problem. Perhaps it's just my mobo and memory.
 
Here is a question I want to know (started a thread at XS). Is the batch L629F219 for E6600 a good OCer? The local MicroCenter here has a few of them and I almost pulled the trigger for one to replace my E6320 but had to back out since I wasn't sure if this batch is good or not. Can someone advise? Thanks...
 
im @ 3ghz on stock cooler with my 6420 :) with mid 32-35C idle temps ... load gets to be 56C or so
 
I have an E6600 running @ 3 GHz on the stock cooler and it folds 24/7. It runs fine and relatively cool (nowhere near its maximum).

Some L629F's are and some aren't.
 
I'm considering overclocking mine but right now I think i'll wait until I get a new heatsink.

I -hate- the way the fans on these core2duo's install.

Versus AMD's lever...this thing gives me a heart attack...anyone have any tips for when I build another one of these in the future?
 
Just got an E6600 (L640F031) from newegg last week L640F031 and it does 3.2GHz at 1.45v with no problem (Orthos stable overnight).

I was kind of suprized because I had heard the later date E6600's were not overclocking very good.

I've booted it up at 3.4GHz at 1.45v but only ran Orthos a few minutes but it ran with no errors. Didn't have time to see if it was really stable.
