Well, I just installed the new Intel "Bad Axe" board (needed new revision of it; had older one) and the E6600 - and the results are, well... strange.
1) Does the Core Speed & Multiplier only increase when needed/under usage?
CPU-z is reading the following:
Core Speed: 1600 (but jumps to 2400 sometimes when opening progs, which is where I thought it should be)
Multiplier: started at x9 but now is reading regularly at x6 (jumps to x9 when opening/closing progs)
Bus Speed: 266.7
Rated FSB: 1066.7
...and for some reason, my ram is now reading at a ratio of 2:3 which I've never seen.
On this same board (earlier revision, as stated) it was at 2:1. What's that about?
Do these dual cores only read/jump up to where they should when under usage/load?
Or are these readings way off because something isn't right?
In my bios, here is the set-up for a few things:
CPU Speed: 2.39 (reading at)
CPU Voltage: 1.325
Multiplier: x9
Host Clock Freq: 266
Bus Freq: 33.33
If there is something I need to adjust in my bios if this seems wrong to you guys, can you please let me know what?
Also, I've had three other probs since install:
1) my friggin' GPU temp is way higher than it was - not a re-installation error; sink is fine (Thermalright HR-03), all fans working the same.
Was idle @40C, now idles @51C.
Under load, never got above 60C, now hitting almost 80C.
3 prong plugs on this board are different; fans being controlled at diff speeds? Though the fan on GPU sink not multi-speed.
2) got a pop-up stating some hardware could not be installed, but don't know what (soundcard mabye? - because of new board?) but all drivers are already installed on HDD for all my hardware.
Looking just for something "PCI", but did not state what hardware.
3) Upon booting, screen says "no hard disk detected" but bios is set up right, and then my system loads from my HDD fine... ???
Any and ALL help would be appreciated about all of these issues (though a couple are non-CPU specific, but happened upon install, so I'm including them here).
CPU in bios reading steady 33C and not changing. Should I be using something else to monitor it?
Sorry for all the frantic questions.
Trying to figure out what's up, and doing 100 things at the same time.
If someone can address most of these issues, or all between multiple people, I'd GREATLY appreciate it!
Thanks.
P.S.
I'm noticing maybe some improvement in performance over the P4 3.6 I was running (another big thread on that I started) but nothing really huge when multi-tasking. Maybe a bit. Shouldn't it be far more noticeable? That's the info I got from everyone here who helped me out in the other thread... including progs opening faster, which they seem to be a bit, but I would have thought a bit more.
Game loading and performance seems maybe a little quicker.
