E6600 mimimun vcore?

A quick question from a newbie. Are there any dangers in using a vcore value as minimal as possible? I'm running the E6600 at stock speeds on 1.10 volts in order to lessen heat generation when the processor faces full load. Could there be some deathtraps in this or am I safe, as the machine seems to boot up and work normally?
 
It can't damage the processor, but it may cause system instability. If it does, put the vcore back to stock and it will act normal again.
 
I dont think full load temperatures on a stock heatsink get above 45° C anyway... why lower the voltage to run at stock speeds? Heat really isn't a problem.
 
You can also just enable power management in Windows. My E6600 is overclocked to 3.06 (fairly modest) at 1.325V, but with EIST enabled, it throttles back to 2ghz at 1.05V if I'm not using it heavily. When I play games, it runs at full speed.

Well, that's the thing. I've got a Ninja Plus on top of it, but the sucker doesn't seem to get decent enough contact with the CPU, resulting in higher temperatures. When the Vcore is at 1.28, the idle temperature is around 37, gaming around 45 and both cores under full load at 53 celsius -- which to my understanding is too high for the setup (case is 180P, mobo P5B Deluxe Wifi). I've remounted the thing a couple of times now, trying slightly different amounts of thermal paste & orientation, with no big successes to brag about. Might actually have to give the stock cooler a try soon...

Currently, at Vcore 1.10, the idle is around 30 and full load on both cores around 42 celsius. Of course, it could be that the temperature sensors are somehow fubar.
 
First off, what are you using to read temps? Coretemp or asus probe?

As far as your temps, honestly they arent that horrible, defintely could be worse. If you really think its that bad you could try once more to remount and use the grain of rice method for the paste. Alot of things though could be affecting your temps, airflow, ambient temp, or could be exactly as you thought, just bad contact.

Either way though, those temps are still no where near where you should worry, if you were getting high 40s idle, and 55-60's gaming, then I'd be concerned.
 
Aye. I guess there's also a bit of paranoia and over expectations involved as well. Knowledge hurts or something like that. Anyway, I've been using CoreTemp and Intel's TAT to read the temps. The airflow should be sufficient. One intake, two pushing air out of the case at the back(/top) and Ninja's fan also pointing towards the back. Doesn't seem to have much of an effect if I take the fan at the top away and close the opening.

Raised the FSB to 320 (so CPU is at 2880MHz @ 1.20v) and full load temperature went up to 48c. Edit: at 1.10v it's 45c.
 
I wish I had your temps! My E6600 idles at 39C, with 51C full load.... and thats with AI booster reading the temps... CoreTemp reads it 10C warmer .....

When I overclock to 3.15ghz (1.325V), I get 69C full load (CoreTemp)....
 
#1 - Your temps are fine. Remember CoreTemp reads off an INTERNAL probe which the temps will be much higher than people are used to. (IE: 10C + normal temps)

#2 - there's nothing wrong with undervolting your chip, as long as its still stable. (test it with Orthos)

I've done it many times in the past to keep my chips cooler. Ex: my 2.4C in my Shuttle XPC @ 3.2Ghz is undervolted AND overclocked :)

#3 - Why not overclock your chip and enable EIST. Best of both worlds. You should be able to hit a nice round 3Ghz @ 333Mhz FSB, then with EIST your chip will run at 2Ghz @ 1.05v.
There not too much of a point of using EIST at 2.4Ghz as it should already run cool, especially if you're undervolting it.

Search for CPU Lapping, and Heatsink lapping on this forum. It will teach you how to make the two get better contact.
