I've searched Intel's site and can't find an answer. I've got mine set at 1.4 even. Is that too high? Prime was failing at default @ 3 Ghz, so I bumped it up. Temps are still low (less than 40C). I just got the chip, so I don't want to kill it.

Opinions?

From what I've been told on these forums, +0.1 to +0.15 over stock vcore is acceptable on air cooling if the temps are within the proper boundaries. For water cooling +0.15 to +0.20 is supposed to be acceptable (assuming temps are legit).

Then again, it all comes down to what your are comfortable with.
 
I think I'm gonna leave it at 1.4... I've seen alot of people running it higher. I've been dual priming since 7pm last night with the following settings:

E6600 Vcore 1.4 @ 3 Ghz (333*9)

That's the overclock I was hoping for anyway.

So I think I can safely call it stable. Temps never got higher that 44C.

Intel's absolute max Vcore is 1.55V. People's general consensus is that you shouldn't go over 1.6V EVER, and that 1.6V will lower your CPU's lifespan; however, how much that lifespan is reduced is up in the air. Best to stick with Intel's 1.55V.
 
My retail E6600 needed 1.45V @ 3.2GHz, 1.5V @ 3.3GHz and 1.6V @ 3.4GHz STABLE.

I decided to run 3.2GHz 24/7. Just keep it cool and away from 1.6V and you'll be fine.

I think you need to look at it in percentages, as stock voltage keeps going lower & lower for new processes. most people bump their voltage about 10%.
 
Thanks for the tips guys. I ran dual prime for 40 hours with the 6600 @ 3 Ghz/1.4 Vcore.

It then dawned on me that I had also raised my Ram temp at the same time as I raised the Vcore. It was reading 1.8 volts, but rated for 1.95. So I raised it to 2v for the Ram.

So, I decided to try to drop the Vcore down and see if the ram was causing my error. Vcore is now at 1.325 and dual prime is running great so far. I don't know why my Asus P5W DH was running the ram at a low voltage, so if anyone has trouble... check the ram voltage as well. If it stays stable for the next 24 hours, I'm going to try to get a higher overclock. 3Ghz was all I hoped for, but now greed is setting in. Every other time in my life that I've bought a chip hoping to overclock it, I've got a dud. This is the first time things are in my favor. Even if I can't get over 3Ghz, I got 600 free Mhz from each core and the performance of a 6800 for $349. Can't beat that.

That's great you're doin' 3GHz on stock VCore! Especially for a retail E6600. I'm really hoping when my P5W gets here Monday, I'll have a little better results than my DS3. Even if I don't get higher FSB, it'd be nice to run my retail E6600 with less VCore.
