OK guys I need your help,

I will be upgrading around Febuary time. And I will be getting one of the two processors above. Now it's either one of these options, but which one I dunno.

Option 1) Buy the E6700. Air cooled
Option 2) Buy the E6600. But add a Watercooling unit in the case for CPU only, then OC it.

Now I know everyone will say "Option 2". But is there much difference between the two chips if I didn't OC. Thats what I really want to know. As price difference is a whopping £130.

Thanks in advanced.

You can get awesome overclocks on the E6600 without water. I fail to see why you would aircool the 6700 but not the 6600.

And yeah the E6600 has a 9x multi and the E6700 has a 10x multi. Really, that's the only difference between the two and absolutely not worth the additional cost, in my opinion.

[edit - the stock speeds on the two are 2.4 and 2.66Ghz, respectively. Nothing that you're going to notice without benchmarking or running SuperPi and pretty much irrelivent when you throw overclocking into the mix.]

E6600!

2.4ghz and can easily overclock to 3ghz (@ least).

3.6ghz is possible!

Thanks for the help. I guess I will be getting the E6600. ;)

Will that chip clock to say 3.3Ghz on Air? I will have the Stacker 830 case when building.

I went a different route, so just my opinion. I bought the 6400 with knowledge to replace it when the quads come down in price. So the 6400 or 6600 I bought would be a definate hold me over, so I went with the cheapest chip with a good overclocking history.

Meh, then again I also replace everything every 12-18 months.

Seems from reading the 6400/6600/6700 are very close in overclocks. I know there is a difference, but I doubt I will experience the difference except for benchmarks.

Hell, I most likely will not see any difference using a quad core!

get the Xeon 3060, same processor as the E6600 but binned for lower voltages. the only difference between the E6600 and the E6700 is that the multiplier is 10x and 11x respectively.
