I am in the early stages or building a new comp. and am thinking about getting a E6600. Fryes has it now (today is last day) at $297 retail. Should I bite the bullet or is there a price change in the near future? I have read reports that this should happen in 2Q2007 but I am not sure that I want to wait that long? Any ideas? thanks, rich

Mate, time for a life lesson....carpe diem

You can wait forever and there will always be something else around the corner that will be an even better deal if you wait just another few months....

Moral: Good price, buy now, enjoy now. :D

Seriously, if you were debating on holding off for a brand new and improved product not yet released, that's one thing. But if you're talking holding off spending a little bit of cash for the exact same product now versus in a few months - pick it up and get on with the show!

I don't want to wait for a couple of months, but don't mind waiting for a week or two if something else was coming down the pike that would drive the price down. I just didn't know of anything and figured that I would throw it out there. You are definitely correct about something else new always coming. Thanks rich

I don't see anything coming in the next few weeks around that area that would be worth waiting for.

True, the price may fluctuate again, but I agree... if you can afford it now, buy now and enjoy.

did it, just put the order in (for the E6600, not the carp). Now if I can just figure out what motherboard to get. Thanks for the input. rich

Wait for 3 months.
The product would have matured and prices would be lower by then.

Yes, you could wait forever or you could wait strategically.

Waiting 3 months would be strategic.

for an extra $50 off? seems like a waste of three months to me.

Alright! Congrats on the new buy. Let us know how it all goes for ya. :D

Wait for what? We were waiting for conroe, right? It's out, unless you wanna wait for some new cpu architecture.

Well, you could wait maybe a week or 2 and see if prices fall in-line with Intel's newly released MSRP to save $50-75. Otherwise, I'd say jump on it unless you really want to get a Q6600 in a few months from now.

It's suppose to drop to $224 next quarter. Is that worth about a 3 month wait?

Ardrid, I did not know about the newly released MSRP. Are you talking about the Q6600 or the E6600. The only price changes I saw were not going to happen till 2Q2007? Oh, well, it has been ordered and is on its way. Thanks for everyone's input, I will let everyone know the details once it gets here.

The processor doesn't need time to mature. In three months it will be what $250? If you always wait for price drops you will never buy a damn thing. Then before you know it the product is discontinued and gone and you repeat the rediculous cycle. I bought my E6600 for $312 not too far from launch. So what they are $297 now? Big deal, I am not agonizing over that and I don't feel like I should have waited for the drop.

If you can afford it, and you want it, GRAB IT. I think people who are overly frugal never enjoy anything because they agonize over every purchase too much. Then they think about it in hind sight and CONTIUNE to agonoize over the decision. Life's too short for that crap.

I bought a e6600 and i lowered the voltage from 1.35 to 1.18. Using the stock intel heatsink with a reduced fan speed(about one third of the normal fan speed -700rpm-) im at 3.0 with temps at 32/44C. I havent even tried to go any higher, never mind giving the processor its defualt voltage. Point being, GET ONE! I now have a 1,000 dollar processor that i paid 300 for. And im not done yet by a long shot!

E6600 just got delivered. I am looking at the box and having trouble figuring out the week and stepping. Here is the info if anyone can help.
