I just bought a E6600, and it turns out it was a 41F. Do you know anything about F steppings?

Yea, the F stepping is the newest stepping. In terms of overclocking, most new C2D duo chips don't overclock as well as the last revision but that's not to say that they aren't good clockers.. At stock, they're the same. Not sure what else you want to know.
 
The guy that I got it from said that he got it up to 3ghz with 1.3vcore, so I'll just have to wait and see.

The number on mine is L642A292 but I've no idea which character defines what. I was able to OC this chip to 3.8ghz with a TT120 and voltage was 1.4v, 12 hours Orthos stable. Hope that helps, if any.
 
Hmm... I emailed the guy again,and he said the highest he's pushed it was 3.45ghz with 1.5vcore under water. Hopefully, I'll be able to get to my goal of 3.2ghz with 1.30-1.35 vcore.

There's this other guy on OCN that has a F stepping chip and he got it up to 3.6...
 
I'm glad intel has that 3yr warranty...

sometimes I just get replacements over and over until I get a good one. :D
 
Those steppings don't yield very good overclocks...

L640+ are manufactured in the new Malaysian plant.. they tend to require more voltage, and because of that, run hotter.. I was only able to get mine to 3.2GHz stable @ 2C TEC water chilled... wouldn't cooperate at any voltage past that... and that was 1.49v. I suspect the problem is my piece of shit DS3, so I'll let you know when I get my DFI Dark board.
 
This one is probably a good one, thankfully. He said that this one responds good to voltage and that he would take it off water cooling and do some testing for me.

He is going to use the stock cooler and see how close he can get to 3.2ghz with temps below 60c load.

Overclocking voids your warranty, and thats just lame to use intel to exchange your chip.

Don't know if your being serious, sarcastic, or suggesting that I think those are better alternatives? I would say if you buy a processor and it doesn't oc how you like, then you sell it used or just keep it. You bought a cpu working perfectly at stock speeds none of this rma/return junk because it doesn't over perform as much as you'd like.
