holy crap, please parden the 3 posts of this! lol, the page was frozen and I hit submit a few times, then I got a database error message, and now there are 3 posts. sorry about that.

I'm building a MATX system, and I'm stuck between buying the intel e6550 or the 6750. the 6550 is about 20 bucks cheaper, which isn't really that much so I might just get the 6750 anyway since it is better. however, I'm on a budget, so it would be nice to save a bit of money. I was thinking I could get the 6550 and just OC it a little, then spend that extra money on a good heatsink. does anyone think that I'd really miss out on some speed if I didn't get the 6750? I'm not gaming, but I am using adobe cs3 programs heavily, and I rip and burn a lot of dvds. so I need good multi tasking. thanks for the help :D

No significant difference there. The E6550 might be a bit limited on the overclock if you ever tried to push it to the extreme due to it's smaller multiplier. But it should certainly clock up past it's E6750 brother.

But to be honest, neither. At this point I would scour hot deals and the forums looking for the higher clocked Wolfdale's (E8x00 series) in stock at the $189-199 price point or go quad core.
 
Mine and my brothers E6550 had no problems coming in at 3.5GHz running on 500fsb.
 
My bro hit 3500 on the stock intel HS/Fan, I have a Freezer 7 Pro.

how did u afford to buy cs3?
 
E6550 though I forget his temps, mine were 52°C fully loaded with Orthos and it ran around 30°C idle.
 
Well my E6550 is great. When I bought it the difference between the E6550 and the E6750 was the cost of a AC Freezer Pro 7. So I went with the E6550 and the fan. Although I am sure you would be fine either way. If you can find a good deal on a Q6600 or an E8400 that might be a better bet in the long run.
