The RRP on the 6420 will drop to $183 on the 22nd and the 6600 will drop to $224. I wouldn't be in such a hurry.

According to the price guide, the E6550 will be priced around $163.00 comes 2nd half. For now, I have a few options. I can either buy a cheap E4400 or E6420 and wait for the price drop on the E6850 or just stick to what I have now (Celeron 356) and just wait until 2nd half comes around to get the E6850. My eyes are fixed on it as of now.

shopblt was gonna charge me for my local sales tax....kinda turned me off of the deal.

When the price drop occurs, will this CPU be priced around $183 or is this price just for volume discount per 1,000 (or more) CPUs?
 
I cant say for sure, but I would expect the price to drop a bit once april 22nd comes around. I could have swore that I saw on some price preview chart that the $183 price were for 1000 volume buys. Dont hold my word on that though.

Its due to drop to $183.00 on Aprill 22nd.....thats not volume pricing , thats mine and your's pricing :)
 
Hey Triz,

I don't think that chart is for the April 22nd price cuts though, it looks like the ones for August or whenever.
 
Yeah I saw that too BGK. Really only way to tell what the prices will be is wait for April 22nd to come.

yes "H2" i assume means 2nd Half, which starts in "Q3" which i know is quarter 3 ;)

well i saw a review where the guy got his 6420 to 3.72 ghz with a zalman 9700 (stable)..

reading other reviews too like how people are getting great results is what made me make a last minute decision on the 6420 over the 6320...

and now i notice my setup is pretty similar to yours, i updated my sig with my next rigs' specs... :D
 
The only thing that turns me off from the E6300 and E6320 is the low multiplier. Ive seen so many threads about peoples mobos frying lately using E6300's. Im sure its because of the high fsbs. E6400/E6420 is better buy imo. Saves you a little on worrying about memory and "super high" fsb's.

I hope that's true. I could also swear that I read/saw somewhere that says that price is for volume price per 1K units. So, if that's the case, price per one CPU will definitely be higher than the $183 given. But I do hope the price per CPU is just that. It means I can afford one. Otherwise, I will have to go for a lower performance CPU (4300/4400).

The price cut on the E6600 is suppost to be around $226 so it would have to be $183 or less for the 6420.
 
You guys really do jump on the wagon when it comes to releases.

Umm like noted before. the E6600 would have been the better buy.. FTW

if this is true, buying right now is not really a smart move...with less than 9 days to go, you could do a lot better for the money.
 
I would recomend a cheap 6420 or a 6600 as a hold over till 45nm. These things are smoking when running at 3.3 and up. Intel hit a home run with these chips. I was really trying to wait for AMD's Quads, but atm there is nothing a highly clocked Dual Core Core 2 can't handle. First Intel chip in a long time, but damn it packs a mean punch.

i read some stuff on how the 6420 is a lower clocked 6600?

and the thermal paste is different with this one.. looks like this: (both C2D chips ive had before this were oem so i dunno if its like this with all the C2D HSF)

 
I read some posts on a few forums where the E6600 chip was a better (price/performance?) than the new E6420, well I don't know about that. I've got a E6600, a E6400, a E6300 and I'm currently waiting on a E6420 (UPS's horses are getting old) and I like my E6400 the best of all, so maybe the E6420 will be better. (4 MB's cache) I do think the x3210 (Q6400 server chip) is a better quad than the Q6600 so that's my next foray into upgrades (the x3210), but I haven't got either, just read on another forum from someone I respect and he said the x3210 clocks better than the q6600 :eek: This individual has 2x Q6600's and at last count I don't know how many x3210's (at least a couple :) ) This is mostly my opinion, don't mean to start some juvunile (SP) war over which chip is best. :cool:
