I finally got my E6420 up and running yesterday and had it at 2.8ghz on 1.4v and stopped. I'm curious, what are you guys getting in temps on your OCed e6420s??? Mine was up to 65 - 67c I believe, but I'm only using the stock HSF in a Sonata II case.

That sounds about right for the OEM heatsink.

If you want to keep the heat down then invest in an after market cooler. The most important thing is keeping core voltage down as low as you can reliably get it.

Your present overclock should be 100% stable at 1.3 volts.

My core temps when running Orthos drop 16C when I reduce the voltage from a bios setting of 1.50 volts down to 1.35 volts while using the Intel heatsink and fan.

I think I need to get a couple more fans for my case. Right now I only have one 120mm exhaust fan in my Sonata II.

Using the Thermaltake big Typhoon

Ambient: 25C
2136 MHz - 31 Idle / 45 Load
3000 MHz - 32 Idle / 46 Load (1.4v)
3200 MHZ - 32 Idle / 46 Load (Same Voltage as 3Ghz)
3500 MHz - 34 Idle / 49 Load (1.45v)

This is on a XFX 650i Ultra (Max FSB I got was 475MHz)

Depends on your ambient I guess. My buddy has his e6420 at 3.0ghz @ 1.4v and loads at 60C with the stock HSF in a coolermaster centurion case.

And mine is running at 3.0 @ 1.4v with the Thermalright SI-128 keeping the load temps under 43C. However, I hit a stupid wall at this speed and I will continue to try tonight since I'm feeling the cpu has a lot of potential

The highest I've dialed my E6420 up to was actually tonight at 3.5Ghz with 1.425v and a 100% load on both cores brought the temps to 58c / 35c idle.

I backed it all down and I'm currently running it at 3.25Ghz w/ 1.3625v.
Those settings give me an idle temp of 30-31c with load temps in the mid 50's.

The highest I've seen it so far is 61c for a few seconds with my stock cooler when I pushed it to 1.4v - 3.34Ghz.
