E6420 or E6600

I am debating on weather to buy e6420 or e6600. I am new to overclocking, I use my PC for Gaming and Video Editing. Is there any advantages from one or the other for the Video Editing part of my needs? or is there a better solution for me?
 
Afaik its 8x (6420) multi vs 9x (6600). The 6600 will give you a higher overclock w/ less FSB because of this, and lets you use lower speed ram for a higher cpu overclock.

The 6600 is cheap on zzf atm.
 
the E4300 will give you 9 multi and its cheaper that either of those two.

Which is better for you depends entirely on your motherboard since with a good overclocking motherboard the e6420 is all you need, but with an average or worse motherboard you will need to get the e6600.... What motherboard do you have, or were you planning on getting?

I have been actually looking at the MSI P6N SLI FI or the Platinum, it has some pretty good reviews on Newegg and a very long thread in here that seems have alot of happy people with it.

I'm going with the Platinum and a 6420. With the video and 3D production I do, the extra 4MB was worth it to me. Plus, the 8x multi works out perfectly for a 3.2ghz OC at 400FSB. I don't want anymore for now and my ram is DDR800 so I certainly like those nice even numbers. ;)
 
Woah, in no way am I a "turn coat" when I got My E6420 the E6600 were still about $316 USD, but now seeing they're steadily dropping in price (E6600) I think I'll go for another E6600 (I have a E6600, a E6420, a E6400 and a E6300 C2D) I have absolutely no regrets in getting my E6420, IMO it's one fine chip. When I can afford it, I'll probably get a x3210 (server Q6400) or a Q6600. (I wonder if Intel is going to market a desktop Q6400?)
