I just got my E6400 and running it with a scythe ninja I am getting temps of 40 celsius idle. This is abnormally hot isn't it? Is the thermal paste that comes with the Ninja sufficent or is artic silver 5 a must. Also, I only spread a little bit of paste on, almost transparent. Should I removed the Ninja and apply more?

Did check heatsink to make its laying flat on cpu. Personally I would use AS5 over what comes with cpu. But as long as temp is not extremely high, it should be fine. But you may what to check the air flow in your case.

Are you overclocking at all? Is that an idle temp or a load temp. Seems a bit high for idle but normal for load at stock speeds.

Let me tell you though that 40c is perfectly healthy. Most people are overclocking there Conroes and the general rule of thumb is that you want to keep it under 60C. Mine runs 46C idle 56C load 24/7 and I have an E6400/DS3.

No this is 40 degrees stock idle!!

Would it be best to completely take out the motherboard, clean the, and reapply thermal paste but a little more this time. Also, is there any trick to applying paste with conroe, I am coming from AMD so I am just curious.

You should see an improvement of -5c range with AS5. I'd say you need better air flow though. If your using stock Ninja fan, replacing that. Also try and improve your case cooling.

I just got my E6400 too. It idles at like 35, as soon as I do anything processor intensive it skyrockets to like 55.

I am running 37C idle and the highest I reached was about 61C when gaming or when I had 498753903 programs running. Stock heatsink, stock Intel fan, stock fans that came with the case (Lian Li PC-61)

I have an E6400 in my CM Stacker 830 it Idles @ 39 - 41C

under load, an our of high-rez GRAW, it stays at about 49C

I have 120MM fan on my Video card and one helping the stock heatsink on the CPU

Okay, so slapping on some AS5 and replacing the stock fan with a panaflo high rpm fan will do the trick. Right now it is impossible to raise voltage without getting around 45-50 idle temps

i'm running my e6400 oc'ed to 2.35 ghz with asus silent square @ 29-30 idle and 47 at 100% load on both cpu's. ambient is about 24. oh, btw, using arctic silver 5.
