e6400 Question

Conroe has 4mb l2 cache (which of 2mb is disabled). Allendales on the other hand have natively only 2mb. Allendales don't have virtualisation support. Conroes might also overclock slightly better.
 
ok thanks i was just wanting to know if it might be a good idea to get a good motherboard and overclock it. I know people have different results but i was just looking to see if i mabey had a decent e6400 that some people have had good oc experience with it.
 
What's your current mobo? Also you might want to upgrade those 533 mems for 800s. 8 x 400 = 3.2GHz with a good cooler should be fairly easy. But everything above 3 GHz is good.
 
allendale=800 fsb and conroe=1066 fsb. Try keeping multi at 8 and pumping fsb to 333 and keep memory at 667 if you have ddr2667 and pump cpu vcore to 1.35v. Most e6400 can do 3.2 @ stock volts but you might be held back by board/memory/cpu. GL.
 
not really good with the ddr 2 ram but my ram runs at 333mhz so is that 667 ram since its ddr2? My motherboard is a p4m900t-m. I enable cpu overclocking and its not really overclocking friendly. system hangs after 295 fsb.
 
All e6400s are conroes...allendales are the e4x00 series that have an 800fsb:rolleyes: Also I have an e6400 from the week they came out and its definitely has virtulization
 
ive seen some allendale 6400's. Go check out some CPU-Z screens. What exactly does the virtualization do? I googled it and it said that it can allow several operating systems to be ran at the same time?

Start up CPUz and have a look at the revision. The revision B2 processors are based on the original Conroe core. The revision L2 processors are based on the Allendale core. The two are different and the average L2 processor does not overclock nearly as well as the average B2 at the same voltage.

The E6300 and E6400 come in both varieties. The original E6300/E6400 were B2 but then Intel had a bright idea to start building them on the same core as the E4x00 series so they could save some money.
