e6400 OC'd Longevity??

I recently upgraded to the rig in my sig and have it OC'd to 3Ghz on the stock fan/heatsink but its also runs rock solid stable at 3.2Ghz but not sure if thats good with the stock fan. Everything runs pretty cool. I was wondering if anyone has seen any long term problems running these babies at these higher speeds, I mean its almost 2x the stock speed lol.
Have people had these over clocked since they first came out?
 
Well, I've been running over 3Ghz for 7 months now and no problems ;) (week26 chip)

Though I never pass 60C when using my computer. Only TAT will go above 60C, Orthos will 57-58C, and the most I've monitored an intensive game (like stalker) go is 54C (which is also due to my video card giving off some heat)
 
A mild overclock to 3200 MHz is nothing for a C2D. They'll all be running strong long after you get bored with it.

My original P3-450 has been running fully overclocked since 1999 and my niece is still using it today.

Keep the temps under 70C and you'll never have a problem. The Intel heatsink and fan works fine for 3000 MHz to 3200 MHz.
 
Been running my E6400 @ 3.2 24/7 with an after market cooler for roughly 6 months no problem.

Remember that overclocking can shorten the life of any CPU. But if done properly don't live in fear.

But your choices are pretty simple.

1. Run the CPU @ Stock and have no worries about life expectancy and call it a day.
2. Get a good after market cooler take a small risk and crank it up. :D
 
I realize it's not a C2D, but my old P4 2.4c Northwood is still running at 3ghz at my friends house, and that cpu is going on 4 years now.....my last AMD chip, X2 3800+ ran at 2.6ghz overclocked (2ghz stock) for over a year and a half so far.....


Done properly, I doubt any of us would wear a cpu out before say, 10 years....
