Hey guys I could use some help. First off my temps are slightly bothering me, you can see my rig in my signature, im useing a scythe infinity applied with AS 5 (first time using thermal paste) now speedfan is reading my temps as temp1: 39c temp2: 34c and when im in the bios it reams my cpu temp as high 40's to 52, in speedfan when under full load it jumps up to around 62c...I have 1 fan pulling air from the infinity downward, 1 pulling out of the back of the case and 1 pulling out of the top of the case (120mm's) So I was expected to see some better temps under load. Ive checked the thermal paste application and it seems to be spread evenly and its not thick at all.
Problem 2 so assuming my temps were fine since the cpu is rated to run at 60c I tried to go for a small overclock, it ran fine at 275fsb so I went for 278...system boots but no video, so i tried increasing the vdimm fsb and cpu volts +1, tried again, same thing...for some reason i cant get past 277...am I missing something here?

temps are way to high. My E6300 @ 3.21GHz has cooler temps and we are using the same cooler. The wall your hitting @ 277 is more then likely caused from having Virtialization enabled, and speedstep enabled, and there is 1 more but forget what its called. The only 1 I leave enabled is overheat protection where the core will lower its multi if temps go REALLY HIGH. Other then that disabled all that crap. DAMN, just read your SIG, we have almost the same PC.

Hmm guess I should start over with the thermal paste and stuff then. haha yeah our setups are pretty close.

I have same heatsink, same CPU, same mobo. But I have 533MHz RAM, haha. I put that stuff to 2.1vdimm 1.39vcore and I'm running at 8x400 right now. (3.2GHz). My idle temp is about 27C and load is about 41. I suspect I could go farther on this CPU, but my RAM is holding me back.

So, two things:
#1, DOUBLE CHECK THE HEATSINK. The first time I had the same problem you did, found out it was cuz the damn HSF was not seated all the way. You gotta make sure the black part of the pushpins are ALL the way through.

#2 I lapped my CPU. The heatspreader is not very flat. Go down to the autoparts store and buy some fine grit sandpaper. Get that concave nickel surface into a flat copper one.

You have the FAN on your Infinity pulling?

Thats your problem. I would turn it around and make it PUSH in to the HSF.
Prefferably towards the back of your case so the hot air can be exhausted.
Or PUSHING up towards your PSU, so it can exhaust the air.

You get greater pressure / airflow through it with the fan pushing air in to the HS.

My e6300 runs about 62 on one core and 59 on the other using TAT. This is with two instances of folding@home running.

Yea, I have an older Antec case and the way the socket is positioned on the DS3, the two 80mm exhausts on my case are next to it, separated by only about a quarter of an inch. So as I'm pushing air across the Infinity with the 120mm, two 80mm are pulling that air through and out the back of the case, so it's really like having 3 fans on it :D

I was mocking with mine last night.

Using Stock heatsink that came with the retail box CPU. I got two 80mm fans directly in the back of the case next to the CPU sucking the hot air out. I got two more 80mm fans at the bottom front of the case blowing air in.

Starting at 266, I was able to get it to 280 yesterday. Idle temp was around 44c - 46c. I haven't had time to test it more. But seems to be stable so far. I haven't undervoltage, I left it to AUTO on the Asus board. So It is at 1.25 or something like that now for the vcore.

What memory are you using? I am using the Kingston DDR2-533.

What the hell, dont leave your Vcore set to "auto voltage" I've seen some cases were it will give you 1.45v+ if left on this setting. Set your CPU to 1.325v and try to scale from there.

Really?! Hmm I would have to take care of that when I get home this weekend.
